About Medsender

Medical practices run on paperwork. Referrals still arrive by fax, and patients wait while staff retype what a machine already knows. Medsender exists to take that work off their plate. Our mission is to automate administrative work for healthcare providers so patients get the care they need faster.

We started with fax, the unglamorous protocol that still carries most of the documents moving between practices. That wedge became a platform. Today Medsender reads and routes the documents flowing into a practice, writes what it finds back into the EHR, and works the referrals that come out of them, and MAIRA, our voice AI, picks up the phone calls a front desk never gets to. Thousands of providers in all fifty states run on it, and in the past year it saved them more than 2 million hours.

We're a lean team backed by Ballast Point Partners, and we've made the Inc. 5000 two years running. Healthcare is one of the few places left where good software changes what a workday feels like for the people doing the work, and most of that work is still undone. If you want real ownership and a short distance between your decision and its effect, we'd like to talk.

Role overview

Medsender is growing quickly and investing ahead of the next phase of the business. To support that growth, we are hiring an experienced finance leader to build and run the function. This is our first in-house finance hire.

The ideal candidate has led or been the senior finance operator at a software or recurring-revenue business in the $5M to $50M range, has been through a raise or an exit from the company side, and is comfortable doing the work directly. This person has built a finance function rather than inherited one, or is ready to.

The VP of Finance will give us real visibility into how the business is performing, own capital strategy and preparation for the next raise alongside the CEO, and drive operational execution across the company. Just as important, this person will be a thought partner to the CEO and the leadership team as we scale, and will bring finance in house, setting the organization up for longer-term scale and operating efficiency.

This is a good seat for the right person. You do not often get to build a finance function from scratch at a company that is already growing fast and has the capital to keep investing. The path to CFO is real and specific.

The VP of Finance reports to the CEO and works across the whole company: Sales, Marketing, Product, Engineering, Implementation, and Customer Success. This person will also work closely with our board and with Ballast Point Partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead finance and accounting: monthly close, controls, audit, tax, and cash management.

• Own planning and forecasting: the annual budget, rolling forecast, unit economics, and the board reporting package.

• Own the CAC and payback model behind marketing and sales spend, and the operating metrics the go-to-market teams run on.

• Build the internal finance team and insource the function from our current outsourced model.

• Lead capital strategy and readiness for a future capital event: runway and scenario planning, banking relationships, cap table, and diligence readiness.

• Provide operational execution support: own KPI definitions and the weekly and monthly business review cadence, and turn the plan into accountability across the company.

• Take on the operational areas that sit closest to finance at our size: dotted-line oversight of revenue operations (the RevOps Manager reports to marketing), people operations, billing and collections, and coordination with outside counsel.

• Recruit, develop, and retain the finance team as the company scales.

Key qualifications

• Stage and model fit. 8+ years of progressive finance experience in software or recurring-revenue businesses, including senior roles at companies in the $5M to $50M revenue range. Fluent in SaaS metrics: ARR, net and gross retention, cohorts, CAC payback, unit economics. Comfortable with usage-based and consumption revenue and the revenue recognition it requires. Experience inside a venture- or growth-equity-backed company.

• Hands-on operator. Comfortable doing the work directly, without a large support structure underneath. A doer, not a big-company administrator. Comfortable being the only finance person in house before there is a team.

• Transaction experience. Has been through an exit or a significant capital raise from the company side. Has prepared a company for diligence: data room, quality of earnings, clean historicals. A background in investment banking or private equity is a plus.

• Board and investor facing. Has owned board reporting and investor materials end to end. Thought partner to the CEO who brings a point of view, not just the numbers. Credible with institutional investors.

• Builds the function. Has taken a finance function from outsourced to in-house, including systems, processes, and hiring, or has done the equivalent inside a fast-growing company.

• Operating breadth. Can provide operational support and thinking to drive growth and scale, including strategic thinking, operating systems, and KPIs. Has owned an operating cadence: KPI definitions, business reviews, accountability against the plan.

• Experience in healthcare, health tech, or another regulated industry is a plus, not a requirement.

Personal characteristics

• Owns the numbers and knows the details. A doer with a creative, entrepreneurial mindset. Takes ownership and has a bias toward action. Knows the details cold and can move from the board summary down to the underlying transaction.

• Effective and transparent communicator. Communicates simply and clearly across the organization, the leadership team, and the board. Says what is working and what is not, early enough for the organization to respond.

• Brings a point of view. Forms an independent view of the business and brings it rather than waiting to be asked. Holds the view when it is unpopular and says the uncomfortable thing early rather than after the fact. Backs it with analysis that holds up under challenge from the leadership team, the board, and diligence.

• Business partner, not a scorekeeper. Believes in the first-team mindset and builds relationships. Able to drive both ARR and EBITDA, understands profitability, and contributes to the whole business, not just the finance function. Supports go-to-market and product to improve overall performance.

Logistics

• Location: New York or remote US, with regular time in the New York office.

• Reports to: Salman Haque, CEO.

• Benefits: Health, dental, and vision. Unlimited PTO, and people use it. Regular company offsites.
