Show job description

Hey, I’m Avery, the CEO of Modash. Nearly 3000 brands around the world use our tools to run their influencer marketing programs. We’re hiring a VP of marketing to help us scale this early traction.

We’re working to help every creator earn a living. We do that by making influencer partnerships so effective that marketers move more of their budget to creators.

Our tools help brands discover, partner with, and pay creators: from finding the right people to managing relationships, measuring campaigns and running affiliate programs.

I need someone context driven who knows what it looks like to lead a great team to the promised land. We have built a strong bastion of brand love and a world-class organic content machine. If you’re hoping for a place you can deploy an existing framework without painstakingly sifting through a ton of existing business context this is not the role for you.

Why we’re hiring

In the last few years, Modash has become among the best-known influencer marketing tools. That comes from a strong foundation across SEO/AEO, various content programs, creator partnerships, virtual events, product marketing, and more.

We’ve grown to the point where that team needs a leader who sets direction, not another pair of hands. We have the team, and the budget.

We need someone who:

  • Decides where to allocate those resources.
  • Makes sure our people are working on the right things.
  • Defines how marketing collaborates with other teams.
  • Can figure out what is needed from marketing for the next stage of our growth.
  • Has enough taste to separate “good” from “truly great”.

How marketing is set up

Modash has two products: Our influencer marketing Platform and our API. They’re at very different stages and need very different marketing. This role leads marketing for the Platform. API marketing is run separately today, and how the two fit together over time is something we’ll work out as we grow.

What you’ll actually own

1. Lead Platform marketing and the team behind it.

You’ll set targets, build the plan and measure against it, deciding where we invest, what waits and what we stop. You’ll lead 10–15 people across several teams, mostly through their leads: putting the right people in the right roles, hiring where we have gaps and growing the leads we already have. Modash is still scrappy, though. When it’s needed, we all jump in and do the work ourselves.

2. Make the Modash story land.

We have many products and exceptional engineering, but people still mostly know us for search. We have the material and the people. What’s missing is picking the stories that matter and telling them in a way that spreads on its own. You’ll set the bar for editorial and creative work, and make product marketing something Product and Sales rely on all year, not just at launch.

3. Help shape where Modash goes next.

We want to grow account value and retention, not just signups. That likely means moving upmarket and cross-selling more of our products to existing customers. We haven’t worked out every part of it yet, and shaping that with me is part of the job.

What the day-to-day looks like

Here’s a handful of examples of what might hit your plate each week.

  • Running 1-1s with marketing team leads. Ensure direction is clear, help them to identify & solve issues, and level up their teams.
  • Working with me and finance on next year’s account value goal: what it would take for marketing to win larger customers, and what we’d need to invest.
  • Review existing teams and initiatives: who is spread thin? What should we double-down on? Which initiatives should stop?
  • Co-ordinating with Sales on how we qualify and handle inbound demo requests.

This is a leadership role. Most weeks you won’t be editing copy or running the website project yourself, but you’ll know what good looks like and make sure the team gets there.

What you’ve done before

Your experience includes:

  • A track record of product marketing and creative work that made product stories resonate and delivered measurable impact, with clear examples of your contribution and results.
  • A key marketing role in helping a company grow from roughly $20M toward $100M in revenue.
  • Leadership of several marketing teams and their leads, including setting direction and developing leaders.
  • Repositioning a product for larger customers, or growing account value through cross-selling.
  • Deep experience in more than one marketing channel (e.g. product marketing, ads, SEO/AEO, creator partnerships). You mostly won’t be in the weeds, but you need to know what “good” looks like across the team.
  • Building lasting collaboration across Marketing, Product and Sales.
  • Clear writing, sound decision-making and the ability to bring people along.

You don’t need to have held a VP title before. You might have been Head of Marketing, Director of Marketing or something similarly shaped in a company that managed to scale. And you don’t need decades of experience, just proof that you’ve run a marketing machine that worked.

If you’ve mostly worked at very large, established brands, this probably isn’t the right fit. The same goes if you want to focus only on brand or only on demand generation.

What we offer
