ON.energy is setting the standard for large load interconnection. ON’s patented AI UPS™ is a medium-voltage UPS that serves as a firewall, protecting the data center from the grid, and the grid from the data center. With multiple gigawatts currently under construction, we are enabling grid-safe data centers.
Vice President, Product Management
Miami, Florida; Washington, DC; or Remote (U.S.)
ON.energy is building the power infrastructure that makes the AI era possible. As AI demand surges past what the grid and traditional data centers can support, ON.energy provides a new class of power technology proven at gigawatt scale and trusted by the world’s leading cloud and AI companies. Our systems are already deployed across 2.5 GW of hyper-scale campuses, validated by top U.S. national labs, and certified for grid-safe operation by major utilities. With real products in the field, we’re scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future.
ON.energy is seeking a Vice President of Product Management to lead and own the product roadmap for our medium-voltage UPS systems serving the data center power market. This role is responsible for defining product direction, translating market needs into actionable requirements, and establishing the business case and prioritization framework for what we build next.
Building on ON.energy’s customer-informed product development to date, the VP of Product Management will establish a clear, well-supported roadmap for the next 12–24 months, balancing customer value, competitive differentiation, technical feasibility, regulatory and certification requirements, delivery timing, and financial outcomes. Reporting to the SVP of Engineering and working closely with the CTO and senior leadership, this leader will build and lead a small, focused product management team while staying hands-on in roadmap, requirements, and customer work.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Strategy & Roadmap: Develop and maintain a product roadmap with clear priorities, business cases, milestones, and measurable outcomes, and provide a sound commercial rationale for roadmap decisions.
- Market & Customer Discovery: Engage with customers, channel partners (as applicable), and industry stakeholders to identify emerging requirements and trends in data center power infrastructure.
- Product Requirements & Go-to-Market Inputs: Translate market insights into product requirements, including target pricing, certification and compliance needs, and planned launch timing.
- Technical Direction: Partner with R&D and Engineering to assess technology options and recommend the most effective solutions based on feasibility, risk, and expected customer value.
- Scope & Customization Strategy: Determine when customer-specific features justify investment versus when they should be standardized and incorporated into the broader product offering.
- Commercialization: Partner with Sales on pricing and packaging, and with Marketing on positioning, product narratives, and launch planning.
- Execution Alignment: Provide clear product direction to program management and engineering teams throughout development and delivery, ensuring the released product meets its original intent.
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and develop a small, high-performing product management team, setting clear expectations and coaching team members while remaining a hands-on contributor.
- Operating Model: Establish a durable product management operating model and repeatable processes that can scale as the business grows.
- External Representation: Serve as a product and strategy representative with customers and at relevant industry events.
First 12–24 Months
- Validate existing assumptions regarding customer demand, market trajectory, competitive landscape, and product differentiation.
- Develop a prioritized roadmap with business cases, target outcomes, and delivery timelines.
- Establish repeatable product management processes that connect customer insight to requirements, investment decisions, and execution alignment.
- Hire and onboard a small product management team aligned to roadmap priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 10+ years of product management experience, including at least 5 years in a product leadership role managing people and owning a multi-product roadmap.
- Experience leading small, hands-on product teams, balancing people leadership with individual contribution.
- Significant experience in product management for complex electrical hardware, systems, or mission-critical infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to bring technical products to market, including requirements definition, pricing strategy, and launch planning.
- Strong understanding of the data center industry and the buyer/user needs that shape critical power infrastructure decisions.
- Experience in UPS and/or critical power infrastructure (particularly low- or medium-voltage systems) is highly relevant.
- Sufficient technical depth to collaborate effectively with R&D and engineering teams and to assess technical tradeoffs and risks.
- Working knowledge of relevant standards and certification pathways (e.g., UL 1778, IEC 62040, IEEE, NFPA 70/NEC) and their impact on product cost, design, and launch timing.
- Strong commercial judgment regarding demand forecasting, pricing, value proposition, and the economics of customization.
- Track record of using data, including market sizing, win/loss analysis, customer feedback, and field performance, to drive prioritization and investment decisions.
- Experience managing the full product lifecycle, including sustaining engineering, cost reduction, and end-of-life decisions.
- Experience engaging hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center operators, as well as EPCs, consulting engineers, and other specifiers who influence purchasing decisions.
- Proven ability to form independent viewpoints and communicate them clearly to customers and executive leadership, including presenting business cases and articulating technical requirements in customer-facing contexts.
- Proficiency with product management and roadmapping tools (e.g., Jira, Aha!, or equivalent) and experience working within a stage-gate or similar development process.
- Experience in a high-growth or venture-backed company, with comfort operating amid ambiguity and limited resources.
- Familiarity with power electronics, energy storage and battery technologies, and utility/grid interconnection considerations is preferred.
- Prior experience building or scaling a product management function is a plus.
- MBA not required; prior product leadership impact is the primary criterion.
