  • Promote underwriting excellence by reviewing and providing second signature approval on underwriting decisions, providing technical guidance and consultation on complex cases, partnering with Medical staff and underwriting colleagues as appropriate, and ensuring sound and consistent application of underwriting philosophy and guidelines.
  • Maintain underwriting expertise by managing a small active underwriting caseload, demonstrating sound risk assessment and remaining connected to the complexities and evolving needs of our facultative business.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by developing a thorough understanding of assigned clients, including their business, products, procedures, treaty considerations, and service expectations. Serve as a primary underwriting resource for assigned clients and provide timely, thoughtful support that strengthens Gen Re’s position as a valued reinsurance partner.
  • Monitor client and business performance by identifying trends in areas such as facultative activity, placement, and service. Share insights and proactively identify opportunities to improve the client experience and strengthen relationships.
  • Advance underwriting practices by partnering with underwriting leadership, Medical, Actuarial, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to enhance underwriting guidelines, risk assessment, workflows, efficiency, and the overall client experience.
  • Contribute to key underwriting initiatives and projects by effectively managing responsibilities and resources, supporting team member participation, and helping ensure projects are completed successfully and on schedule.
  • Support effective operations across the underwriting team by partnering with other Underwriting Executives and underwriting leadership to manage workflow, staffing needs, and priorities and by providing leadership coverage when needed.
  • Represent Gen Re with clients and within the industry through periodic client meetings, visits, conferences, and other appropriate industry activities.

Role Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive individual life reinsurance underwriting experience with demonstrated expertise evaluating complex medical, non-medical, financial, highly substandard, and multi-impairment risks.
  • Strong underwriting judgment, risk assessment capabilities, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality underwriting decisions.
