Position : WordPress Developer Location : Remote (Philippines) Contract Type : Contract role (remote, Philippines) Experience Level : Intermediate (approximately 4-5 years of WordPress development experience) About Us Waiev Marketing is a fast-growing content marketing & SEO business serving service-oriented companies. We specialize in creating high-ranking content—podcasts, videos, transcripts, articles, social media—and building the web infrastructure that supports it. We’re looking for a skilled WordPress Developer who can help build, optimize, and maintain WordPress-based sites aligned with our content strategy. Role Overview As our WordPress Developer, you will develop, customise, and support WordPress websites: everything from theme and plugin work to performance optimisation, content workflow integration, and ensuring websites are built for SEO, speed and reliability. You’ll work closely with our content/SEO team, designers, and project managers to deliver website experiences that support our marketing deliverables and help our clients become trusted experts in their field. Key Responsibilities Build new WordPress websites from scratch or customise themes/child-themes according to design/functional requirements. Develop and maintain WordPress plugins (custom plugins, enhancements) as needed to support specific site functionalities (e.g., podcast integration, video embedding, transcript display, content hub). Customize existing WordPress plugins and themes to meet specific project requirements. Optimize website performance—front-end (minification, lazy-loading, image optimisation, caching) and back-end (efficient queries, clean database, hosting configuration). Ensure WordPress sites are built with SEO best practices in mind: semantic HTML, structured data, fast load times, mobile friendly, crawlable architecture. Ensure website security and stability: secure code, regular updates to WordPress core/themes/plugins, handle backups and disaster recovery considerations. Integrate third-party services/APIs (e.g., podcast services, video platforms, social media feeds, transcription engines, CRM/marketing tools). Collaborate with content/SEO teams to ensure website supports their workflows (e.g., enabling content hubs, blog architecture, media libraries). Work in a remote environment: manage tasks, deliverables, time zones, and communication effectively. Use version control (Git or equivalent) and adhere to development workflows (branching, pull requests, code review). Provide ongoing maintenance/support for live WordPress sites: bug-fixes, updates, performance monitoring, and optimization. Document technical architecture, customizations, and hand-off instructions for future team use. Required Qualifications 4-5 years of professional experience developing with WordPress (themes, plugins, customizations). Strong proficiency in PHP, MySQL, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (vanilla and comfortable with libraries/frameworks as needed). Demonstrated experience building or customizing WordPress plugins. Experience customizing or building WordPress themes (child themes, frameworks, starter themes). Good knowledge of performance optimisation for WordPress: caching, query optimisation, asset management, lazy loading, image/asset optimisation. Familiarity with SEO best practices from a technical/website perspective (page speed, schema, mobile performance, accessibility). Experience integrating external APIs or third-party services in WordPress context. Good understanding of security best practices in WordPress (sanitization, roles/capabilities, hardening). Experience using version control (e.g., Git) and working in team development workflows. Strong communication skills (written and spoken English), self-motivated and comfortable working remotely. Able to manage and prioritise tasks independently in a remote contract environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with headless or decoupled WordPress architectures (WordPress REST API, GraphQL). Familiarity with modern PHP tooling (Composer, PSR standards, WP-CLI). Experience with page builders (Elementor, Beaver Builder, Gutenberg blocks) and custom block development. Experience working with media-rich websites (podcasts, videos, transcripts) and integrating with media platforms. Familiarity with cloud hosting and DevOps for WordPress (AWS, DigitalOcean, Docker). Basic knowledge of marketing/SEO tools (Google Analytics, Search Console, SEO plugins) and content workflows. Compensation The base pay range for this role is $500 – $750 per month.
