The Warranty Engineer Role The Warranty Engineer/Reliability Engineer is responsible for leading warranty analysis, failure investigation, and reliability improvement initiatives to support product performance and customer satisfaction. This role utilizes data-driven methodologies to identify root causes of field failures, develop corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement across products and processes. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise, advanced data analysis capabilities, and excellent communication skills to translate complex data into actionable insights and sustainable solutions. Data-driven problem solving, continuous improvement mindset, customer focus and collaboration, strong communication and reporting, and accountability and high-performance standards are a must. This is primarily an office and laboratory-based role with significant attention to data records and data analysis. Occasional travel may be required for manufacturing site visits, customer visits or filed investigations. Responsibilities Prepare technical reports and present findings to internal leadership and customers primarily for warranty field quality returns. Combine observations from the vehicle and claim information, program history, warranty performance, and laboratory analysis for root cause investigations and draw conclusions on part condition, failure modes, and/or test success. Provide technical assistance and feedback to other engineers/technicians concerning drawing conclusions on observations, measurement methods, and/or measurement techniques. Use of quality tools such as FTA, PDCA, process documentation. Review of analysis sheets for accuracy, consistency, and logic. Propose, communicate, and take actions, based on warranty results and conclusions for claim reductions and warranty share rate reductions. Support and occasionally lead root cause analysis activities for warranty returns, field failures, and customer-reported concerns with a fast-paced dynamic team. Develop and maintain technical relationships with customers identifying opportunities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including applications, design, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, supplier development, sales, and finance. Analyze warranty data trends to identify systemic issues and drive corrective actions. Develop evidence-based conclusions aligned with failure modes, test data, and field conditions. Acquire, validate, and manage warranty data from multiple sources, especially regarding Customer Specific Requirements and Customer Warranty and Quality Portals. Develop and maintain databases, queries, and reporting tools for analysis. Apply statistical analysis techniques to evaluate product performance. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and monitor warranty trends for escalation. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in warranty, reliability, or product engineering. Experience in root cause analysis and failure investigation. Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Experience with databases such as SQL or Access. Familiarity with CQI-14 Automotive Warranty Management, limitations and opportunities. Excellent technical writing and communication skills. Experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments. Experience working with OEM customers. Familiarity with warranty systems and field return processes. Advanced statistical analysis tool experience.
