Description

The Web Content Strategist is a time-limited role supporting content strategy, information architecture, governance, content development, and implementation for our client's web modernization efforts.

The position translates source material and subject-matter expertise into clear, engaging, structured web content and implements it in Sitecore using approved templates, components, content models, taxonomy, and design standards. The role works across internal teams, agency partners, project management, change management, analytics, DAM, search, and subject-matter experts to ensure content supports audience needs, brand standards, accessibility, SEO/GEO, analytics, reuse, and measurable engagement goals. Working within established direction and governance, the strategist is expected to exercise independent judgment, manage assigned work through completion, and ensure quality and on-time delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy and Development

Support development, refinement, and implementation of content strategies for highly visible website projects

Translate institutional content and subject-matter expert input into concise, audience-centered web content.

Draft, edit, and optimize page copy, headlines, calls to action, summaries, metadata, information architecture frameworks, and other digital content.

Structure content around audience personas, user journeys, engagement goals, and business objectives.

Apply established brand, voice and tone, editorial, accessibility, and content design standards.

Identify content gaps, duplication, inconsistencies, and opportunities for consolidation, reuse, or syndication.

Structured Content, Taxonomy, and Governance

Support development and implementation of structured content models, taxonomies, metadata, and controlled vocabularies that enable content reuse, filtering, search, aggregation, personalization, and dynamic syndication.

Apply established content types, fields, relationships, taxonomy, and metadata consistently when developing or migrating content.

Support content governance standards and practices related to ownership, lifecycle, review, approval, publishing, archiving, and ongoing maintenance.

Work with content, UX, search, analytics, DAM, and technical teams to ensure content structures and taxonomy support audience and business needs and can scale to future use cases.

Sitecore Implementation, Optimization, and Quality

Build and maintain pages and structured content in Sitecore using approved templates, components, content models, taxonomy, and design-system standards.

Translate content and page requirements into appropriate page structures, components, and reusable content objects.

Support content migration, mapping, entry, review, testing, and launch-readiness activities.

Apply SEO and GEO practices to content structure, headings, metadata, internal linking, and copy to improve search visibility and engagement.

Partner with the Web Analytics Lead to align content with KPIs, tracking requirements, and performance goals and use available data to inform optimization.

Conduct quality assurance to ensure content is accurate, accessible, properly classified, aligned with brand and content standards, and production-ready.

Identify and resolve or escalate content, component, taxonomy, or implementation issues that could affect quality, performance, maintainability, or delivery.

Cross-Functional Project Delivery

Collaborate with agency partners, internal digital teams, program and project management, change management, and other stakeholders to execute assigned work.

Participate in Agile/Scrum planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, reviews, and other project activities as appropriate.

Manage assigned work and dependencies through Jira and maintain required documentation in Confluence and other approved repositories.

Manage multiple priorities within defined sprint and project schedules, exercising independent judgment and taking responsibility for on-time completion.

Communicate questions, risks, dependencies, and decisions early enough to support effective project delivery.

Sitecore Ecosystem and Stakeholder Collaboration

Partner with DAM and Search leads to support appropriate integration with Sitecore Content Hub and Sitecore Search, including asset use, metadata, taxonomy, indexing, filtering, and findability.

Work with UX, development, analytics, SEO, and other functional leads to ensure content supports the broader Sitecore implementation.

Work directly with subject-matter experts to translate complex information into effective digital content and guide content review and revision.

Support adoption of new content models, taxonomy, governance standards, authoring practices, and Sitecore workflows through documentation, guidance, and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, digital media, user experience, information science, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience may be considered.

Four or more years of professional experience in web content strategy, digital content, content design, web/UX writing, or a closely related field.

Demonstrated experience translating complex source material and subject-matter expert input into clear, concise, audience-centered web content.

Experience drafting and editing digital content, including headlines, calls to action, page copy, summaries, link text, and metadata.

Experience working within a content management system using structured page templates, reusable components, and structured content models.

Experience applying taxonomy, metadata, or controlled vocabularies to support filtering, search, aggregation, reuse, or dynamic syndication.

Working knowledge of content governance principles, including ownership, standards, lifecycle management, review, approval, and maintenance.

Strong understanding of web writing, content strategy, information hierarchy, usability, accessibility, SEO, and emerging GEO and AI-discovery practices.

Preferred

Hands-on experience authoring or managing content in Sitecore, particularly Sitecore XM Cloud/SitecoreAI or a comparable enterprise CMS/DXP.

Experience implementing component-based, structured, or headless content solutions, including content types, taxonomies, metadata schemas, content relationships, or reusable content models.

Experience using web analytics and performance data to optimize content, with familiarity with enterprise search, digital asset management, Sitecore Content Hub, or Sitecore Search.

Experience supporting a large website redesign, CMS migration, or enterprise digital transformation; working with external implementation partners; and applying web accessibility and inclusive content practices in higher education, healthcare, research, an academic medical center, or another large, complex organization.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
