This internship supports our technical efforts as we build internal tools for a partner in the international development sector. You will help maintain the web interfaces used to present complex financial data to decision makers in a fully remote capacity.
About Blue Oak Consulting Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role In this position, you will bridge the gap between financial analysis and user experience. While our principals handle the core economic modeling, you will build the web-based dashboards and internal tools that make those models legible and interactive for our clients. The work is focused on clear communication of data rather than purely aesthetic design. You will work in a distributed team where the focus is on technical discipline and logical consistency. Since this is a fully remote role, you will be expected to manage your tasks independently while staying in close coordination with the rest of the team through digital channels.
What You Will Be Doing
Developing front-end components using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to support our financial reporting tools.
Translating complex financial models into interactive charts and data tables that are easy to interpret.
Testing web applications for logic errors and performance issues to ensure data accuracy.
Collaborating with our financial analysts to understand how data needs to be visualized for the end user.
Maintaining and updating technical documentation for internal software projects.
Participating in code reviews to learn best practices and ensure code quality across the team.
Troubleshooting bugs and layout issues in the interface of our proprietary pricing tools.
Helping to integrate data from various sources into a unified web interface for our international development projects.
What You Bring
A foundational understanding of web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
Familiarity with modern frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular through academic projects or personal work.
A curious and investigative mindset with a willingness to understand the financial logic behind the code.
Strong attention to detail, particularly when it comes to displaying numerical information accurately.
Comfortable working in a remote environment and communicating through written and verbal channels.
The ability to follow technical specifications while asking questions when a requirement is unclear.
Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of version control systems like Git.
What We Offer
A fully remote work environment that offers flexibility and respects your focus.
Direct mentorship from experienced principals who value practical results over corporate hierarchy.
Competitive pay for an internship role within the current market.
The opportunity to work on projects with significant real-world implications in the international development sector.
Hands-on experience building tools that influence major commercial and financial decisions.
A culture that prioritizes analytical discipline, honesty, and plain speaking.
We believe that technical tools should simplify complexity rather than hide it. By joining our team, you will learn how code can be used to provide clarity in high-stakes financial environments. We value people who are more interested in the underlying logic of a system than in following the latest industry trends. The work we do requires a healthy amount of skepticism and a commitment to getting the numbers right every time.
