The Finance department, responsible for protecting the City's resources in a high-quality, cost effective and innovative environment, is seeking a Worker's Compensation Adjuster for their Risk Management division.
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to perform complex responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
- Review all reports of occupational injuries and illnesses for accuracy and completeness.
- Request necessary investigative reports and interview City employees to obtain information required to determine the City's liability under the Worker's Compensation Act.
- Audit all medical and prescription bills for accuracy and appropriateness and authorize all benefit payments.
- Conduct training with operational departments on claims processes as needed.
- Attend monthly department meetings with larger departments to review current claims status.
- Maintain current and accurate claims files.
- Submit reports and documents to the Industrial Commission of Virginia in accordance with the Worker's Compensation Act.
- Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the knowledge and experience handling Workers' Compensation claims in Virginia and experience working with a third party administrator and attorney's.
Additional preferences are experience using investigative techniques for interviewing employees, experience working in Public Sector Risk Management for a self-insured entity, as well as a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Position is Hybrid eligible with 3 days in office and 2 days Work from Home.

Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to five (5) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and associated with such positions as claims adjuster handling worker’s compensation claims for an insurance company, claims service company, or self-insurer.
Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
