Job Description:

This Workforce Development Manager will use workforce data to identify gaps across Essentia Health’s physician, advanced practice, clinical, and non-clinical workforce before they become vacancies, then design, lead, and measure the programs that close them. That work happens alongside Physician Recruitment, Graduate Medical Education, medical staff and Operations leaders, and leaders in Nursing, Finance, and Human Resources, including Talent Acquisition, Organizational Learning and Development, HRIS, and HR Business Partners. They will continue building a team that partners with pre-med and undergraduate programs, medical schools, residency and fellowship programs, advanced practice provider programs, technical and community colleges, high schools, workforce boards, government agencies, and community organizations. Day to day, they own the workforce development function and are responsible for the growth and performance of its team.

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Healthcare, or a related field

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to a three- to five-year strategic workforce plan, including forecasting, scenario planning, environmental scans, and gap analysis. Monitor progress and recommend strategies to address current and projected needs
  • Partner with Operations, Nursing, Finance, Internal Mobility, and HR Business Partners to understand workforce requirements related to headcount, budget, and skills
  • Design, implement, and evaluate workforce development programs, including career pathways, earn-while-you-learn apprenticeships, internships, educational partnerships, and internal advancement programs
  • Develop and manage partnerships with pre-med programs, medical schools, residency and fellowship programs, and nurse practitioner and physician assistant programs that create pathways into Essentia Health. Partner with Physician Recruitment and Graduate Medical Education to forecast provider needs by specialty and market and to connect training to practice at Essentia Health
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, colleges, workforce boards, government agencies, and community organizations. Represent Essentia Health at workforce coalitions, education partner meetings, and community events
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and Physician Recruitment to align development programs with hiring needs and coordinate participant transitions into open roles. Talent Acquisition and Physician Recruitment retain responsibility for candidate sourcing and recruitment
  • Collaborate with HRIS and analytics teams to develop and maintain workforce supply and demand models, dashboards, and metrics. Measure program participation, completion, transition to employment, and retention, and use results to improve programs and processes
  • Identify and support grant and public funding opportunities. Manage program budgets and education partner agreements
  • Prepare reports and present findings and recommendations to Operations, Nursing, Shared Services, and Human Resources leaders
  • Lead, coach, and develop workforce development team members, setting priorities and supporting their growth and accountability for results
