The Role & Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a confident and capable individual to join the Surrey Workforce Planning & Development Team.

This is a critical and highly visible role, with excellent opportunities to engage and build credible relations with a diverse range of stakeholders and Senior Management Teams, across Surrey & Sussex.

As an Advisor you will hold a portfolio and provide an insight to resourcing at force and local levels. You will provide expert advice and offer solutions to resourcing issues whilst working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

We are seeking individuals who have an inquisitive approach to their work and the ability to produce, analyse and present resourcing and capability reports. Successful candidates will build robust stakeholder networks to understand resourcing requirements, risks, issues, and operational impact. You will use this network to gain an operational perspective to feed into the wider Resourcing and Development team and enhance our analysis of data, enabling effective and accurate resourcing decisions at a strategic level.

This is a unique role, due to the requirement to be able to work independently through the tactical elements of your portfolio but also act as a valuable member of the team, ensuring strong communication with your colleagues. It is important to ensure the team are sighted on issues, risks, trends that may also affect their portfolio, whilst providing consistent data sets in line with the corporate Force reporting.

There may also be a requirement to cover other portfolios in the absence of colleagues, so flexibility and openness within the team is essential. The team work in an agile nature that will include the opportunity to work from home but you will also be required to travel and work both within your business areas and at Headquarters on a weekly basis (minimum 2 days per week). You will also need to be able to apply flexibility to your working day in line with meetings and demand.

  • You will be a confident communicator with the ability to connect and influence at a senior level.
  • You will be self-motivated and be able to take ownership of a business area and be able to work collaboratively across the team.
  • You must be adaptable to change and be flexible with workloads, efficiently prioritising your own workload, whilst being able to manage conflicting demands.
  • We are looking for you to be innovative and take ownership of any projects and specific work relating to your business area.
  • You will be able to problem solve and provide solutions to enable your business area to move forward and work to the force’s priorities.
  • You will have excellent analytical skills with the ability to draw insight using various tools across WFPD.
  • You will be confident in using various systems and software, with the ability to learn and assist with the development of new systems as they progress.
