Job Description - Writer and Editor (Hybrid) (823055) Job Description Writer and Editor (Hybrid) - ( 823055 ) Description Writer and Editor (Information Specialist IV) - (Hybrid) Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is looking for a Writer and Editor with experience working in a fast-paced, structured environment for our Communications Department within the Outreach and Employer Initiatives Division. The Writer and Editor reports to the Director of Strategic Communications. They support internal and external communications efforts across the agency to maintain TWC’s position as a strong creative and amplification partner across the Texas state agency network of professionals. While teleworking is allowed, much of your work will be done in our headquarters on the north lawn of the Texas State Capitol in Austin. Some travel is expected. What You’ll Do As the Communications Department’s Writer and Editor, you’ll craft and shape the stories we tell and advise on the ones we should be telling. Some stories will be in print. Some stories will be in a video. Other stories will be online, on social media, or in talking points. Creativity, collaboration, and an eye for detail are musts. You’ll be challenged to meet tight deadlines, anticipate agency needs, and think critically. You will navigate and master varying audiences and writing styles, prioritize, and connect myriads of dots to paint a crystal-clear picture. Minimum Qualifications: -Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with courses in journalism, public relations, English, advertising, communications, social science, or a related field plus three years of full-time experience in positions involving such activities as writing, scripting, editing, media relations, journalism, public relations, advertising, preparation of public information releases and reports, and other news materials, or performing related activities in a public or private enterprise. -One year of full-time experience in positions involving such activities as writing, scripting, editing, media relations, journalism, public relations, advertising, preparation of public information releases and reports, and other news materials. Samples of work product from previous positions may be required. A skills exercise will be included during the interview process.
