Location: Novi, Michigan
Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for Advanced Application Engineer in Novi, Michigan, to lead and participate in projects that promote steel implementations in automotive industry through computer modeling and photogrammetry measurements.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Conduct FEA analysis to evaluate formability of various stamping processes that include draw, trim and flanging
- Conduct ARGUS and DIC strain measurement
- Conduct optimization of stamping process with respect to die face design (addendum, draw bead), lubrication condition, steel grade, gauge and coating selection for reduced thinning and springback
- Work closely with customers, Application Engineering and CTS to trouble shooting production issues through reverse engineering of modeling the stamping process and making recommendation of engineering solutions for issue resolution
- Have the ability to manage projects from beginning to end, document results and present proposals to customers
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5 years’ experience in die engineering and stamping operations of various steel grades
- 5 years’ Experience in forming simulations using AutoForm
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent team player and self-starter to work with little direction

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 10 years’ experience in die engineering and stamping operations of various steel grades
- 10 years’ Experience in forming simulations using AutoForm
- Metallurgical knowledge of various steel grades and their applications in BIW structures
- Familiar with CATIA / NX for basic design modification and data communication
- Strong analytical skills
