Job Title: Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) Location: Seattle, WA Department: Heart Center / Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Employment Type: Full-Time Shift: Rotating Shifts (Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays) Position Overview Seattle Children’s Heart Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP)—either a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA-C)—to join our nationally recognized Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). As a key member of a interprofessional, team-based care model, the APP provides frontline, high-acuity medical management for a cohort of pediatric cardiac critical care patients. Our CICU is the only dedicated pediatric cardiac intensive care unit in the Pacific Northwest (serving Washington, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, and Oregon) and is an AACN Beacon Award for Excellence recipient. Key Responsibilities & Duties Frontline Patient Care: Provide comprehensive medical management and clinical decision-making for a dynamic cohort of critically ill pediatric cardiac patients in a high-acuity, high-technology setting. Team-Based Model: Collaborate closely with cardiac intensivists, pediatric cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, fellows, specialized CICU nurses, ECMO specialists, respiratory therapists, and clinical pharmacists. Advanced Care Management: Manage complex patients across the spectrum of congenital and acquired heart disease, including post-operative cardiac surgery care, single ventricle palliation, heart failure, and heart transplantation (top-10 busiest pediatric transplant program nationally). High-Technology Support: Manage patients supported by advanced life-support technologies, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and a comprehensive range of Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs) such as Berlin Heart, Impella, HeartMate, and total artificial heart technologies. Invasive Procedures & Resuscitation: Perform bedside procedures and participate actively in critical care resuscitations and stabilization. Cross-Coverage & Redeployment: Flexible support within the Heart Center, with potential redeployment to the Cardiac Specialty Care Unit (CSCU / step-down unit) or adjacent care areas based on clinical needs. Family-Centered Care: Communicate complex clinical updates, care trajectories, and treatment goals clearly with families, working alongside child life specialists and supportive care teams. Work Schedule & Environmental Requirements Shift Structure: Rotating shifts required, covering Days, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays to support 24/7/365 coverage. Acuity & Environment: Very high-acuity, fast-paced environment equipped with a 24-bed single-room floor layout designed for continuous clinical monitoring and family-centered care. Required Credentials: For Nurse Practitioners: Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner For Physician Assistants: Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants For All Providers: Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training and continuous maintenance of certification. Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children's Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuously throughout employment. Preferred: Two years experience in advanced practice provider role Two years experience in pediatric health care Compensation Range $142,120 - $209,019 per year Note: This position is currently eligible for an off-shift premium of up to 12% which would increase the total compensation of this role by an additional $17,054 to $25,082 per year. This position is eligible for relocation for qualified candidates. Salary Information This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
