AmeriCorps VISTA – Housing Program Support Worker

Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri (CPSEMO)
Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Service Term: Full-time, approximately one year
Program Area: Housing and Poverty Alleviation

Make a Lasting Impact in Your Community

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful difference while gaining valuable professional experience? Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri (CPSEMO) is seeking a dedicated AmeriCorps VISTA Housing Program Support Worker to help strengthen the systems that support our housing programs and the individuals and families we serve.

CPSEMO works to alleviate poverty by connecting eligible individuals and families with resources and opportunities that support greater stability and self-sufficiency. Through this VISTA position, you will help improve the behind-the-scenes systems that make those services more effective, sustainable, and accountable.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit management, housing programs, community development, data management, grant compliance, or public service.

Position Overview

The Housing Program Support Worker VISTA will build and strengthen reporting, documentation, scheduling, and compliance systems that support CPSEMO’s housing programs.

Working closely with the Housing Director, the VISTA member will develop sustainable processes, improve data collection and reporting tools, organize program documentation, and strengthen grant compliance practices. These improvements will help CPSEMO operate more efficiently, demonstrate program impact, and sustain effective housing initiatives over time.

This is a capacity-building position rather than a direct-service role. The primary focus is developing tools, processes, and systems that enable CPSEMO to better serve low-income individuals and families in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting and Data Management: Develop and improve reporting tools, tracking systems, and data collection processes to support housing program performance and accountability.
  • Grant Compliance Support: Help organize grant requirements, reporting deadlines, supporting documentation, and compliance records.
  • Documentation Systems: Create standardized procedures, templates, file organization systems, and documentation practices for housing program activities.
  • Scheduling and Workflow Improvement: Develop sustainable scheduling processes, calendars, tracking tools, and workflow systems that improve program efficiency.
  • Performance Monitoring: Assist with organizing program data and developing tools to help staff monitor progress, identify trends, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Process Development: Document procedures and create resources that allow staff to maintain improved systems beyond the VISTA member’s service term.
  • Collaboration: Work with the Housing Director and relevant staff to identify operational needs, implement improvements, and support the long-term sustainability of housing programs.
  • Capacity Building: Help strengthen CPSEMO’s organizational infrastructure so the agency can more effectively address poverty and housing instability in the community.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and motivated to make a difference through meaningful behind-the-scenes work.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working with spreadsheets, databases, digital files, and common office software.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, track deadlines, and follow established procedures.
  • Interest in housing stability, poverty alleviation, nonprofit administration, community development, or grant compliance.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, develop procedures, and improve existing processes.

Previous nonprofit, administrative, data management, or grant-related experience is helpful but not required. A willingness to learn and a commitment to CPSEMO’s mission are essential.
