Lead PL/I Design & Development Consultant
- Circa. $650 per day including super
- Location: Any Australian location
- Working holiday visa holders and candidates without local experience are welcome to apply
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on PL/I consultant to support a major database migration for a financial services organisation. You will lead complex design and development work, provide technical assurance, and help an established team solve demanding engineering challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical analysis and detailed design for complex PL/I application changes.
- Develop high-risk PL/I components and analyse large online, batch and integration codebases.
- Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and performance tuning.
- Review designs and code, identify technical risks, and support testing and implementation readiness.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership and practical knowledge transfer to the development team.
Essential experience
- Extensive enterprise PL/I design and development experience on IBM mainframes.
- Career depth typically associated with 20+ years in complex mainframe environments.
- Strong experience across major PL/I development, migration, remediation or modernisation initiatives.
- Deep practical knowledge of VSAM and IBM MQ.
- Proven ability to safely modify large, complex legacy applications and resolve difficult online, batch, data and integration issues.
- Hands-on technical leadership, design assurance and code review experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Db2, CICS and high-volume transaction processing.
- Banking, insurance or another regulated industry.
- Complex financial calculations, batch processing, reconciliation or regulatory processing.
- Legacy database migration and mainframe diagnostic tools.
