The School of Nutrition Sciences, at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Food Biochemistry, starting July 1st, 2027.
The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program that advances understanding of the relationships between food properties, nutritional quality, and human health. Areas of particular interest include food component interactions and functionality, macronutrient quality and digestibility, nutrient bioaccessibility and bioavailability, and the role of functional foods and bioactive constituents in human health. This appointment will strengthen the School’s strategic focus on food-based approaches that promote health and well-being across the lifespan and help prevent diet-related chronic diseases.

Title of the position: Professor in Food Biochemistry at the rank of assistant professor.
Duties: Academic staff functions include, in varying proportions:
- Contribute to teaching various food science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in both official languages (French and English);
- Lead and sustain a competitive, externally funded program in food biochemistry involving graduate student supervision;
- Contribute to regular administrative processes at the School, Faculty, and/or University level;
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate students in their research.
Terms: New tenure-track position.
Wage: Salary scale for an assistant professor starts at $99,377 (as of May 1, 2025).

Skills requirements:
- Education: PhD in Food Science or a related field. Postdoctoral experience in Food Science.
- Work experience:
- A demonstrated excellent research track record in a health-oriented food science research with a special consideration to the food biochemistry.
- Preference given to candidates with a minimum of 2 years postdoctoral research training, and with demonstrated experience in food sciences.
- A demonstrated track record in teaching and training at the graduate level, a strong track record in interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Language: The University of Ottawa is proud to be the largest bilingual (English-French) university in the world and considers bilingualism to be one of its distinguishing characteristics. At the time of hiring, the selected candidate must have an active knowledge of both French and English. The selected candidate must be able to work and teach in both official languages at the time of obtaining the position.
