Backend Engineer

Job Title: Backend Engineer – Redis & PostgreSQL

Type: Full-time.

Location: San Francisco, CA. On-site, five days per week.

About the Role

We are building a financial operations platform for the construction industry, a massive global market still powered by fragmented, decades-old software. We are looking for a Backend Engineer to help unify those systems behind a modern, reliable API and to scale the platform as demand grows. This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who enjoys simplifying complex systems, solving high-ambiguity problems, and building dependable infrastructure at scale. You will work directly with customers and the team, shipping quickly and improving what you build.

What You Will Do

• Unify fragmented systems behind a modern, well-designed API.
• Build integrations with legacy SQL, DLL, and API-based software.
• Scale systems that handle millions of API requests per day.
• Improve caching, filtering, testing, and reliability across the platform using Redis and PostgreSQL.
• Deploy and run services on AWS using CDK and EC2.
• Improve developer experience so the whole team can ship faster and with confidence.
• Ship quickly and work directly with customers to turn their needs into working solutions.

What We Are Looking For

• 1-5 years of professional backend or full-stack engineering experience.
• Solid hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Redis, including data modeling and caching
• strategies.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs in production.
• Working knowledge of AWS and cloud deployment.
• Ability to work independently, take significant ownership, and make sound technical decisions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort with ambiguity.
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical people.

Nice to Have

• Experience integrating with legacy systems, such as older SQL databases or DLL-based
• software.
• Familiarity with AWS CDK and infrastructure as code.
• Experience scaling APIs under high request volume, including performance tuning and
• observability.
• Exposure to financial, accounting, or construction-industry software.
• Experience at an early-stage startup or working directly with customers.
