The successful candidate will be an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated adult nurse who takes pride and ownership in delivering high quality patient centred care. Excellent organisational, interpersonal and clinical skills, as well as a flexible approach to working, are essential key qualities for this role. By joining the UHB Research, Development and Innovation Team, you will have the opportunity to deliver an extensive, complex portfolio of both interventional and observational Neurology studies that aim to improve future treatment and care options for our patients.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

The neurology research team currently supports an exciting range of commercial and academic, observational and complex interventional studies. This role will provide regular contact with patients and involve research that will make a real difference to future patient care. The well-being and safety of our research participants is at the heart of all we do, as is our confidence that the data we provide is accurate and reproducible.

As a neurology research nurse, you will be involved in all stages of the research process, including but not limited to, set-up, patient identification and recruitment, delivery of research interventions , safety monitoring/reporting and data management. You will use your extensive range of clinical skills and experiences to deliver high quality care to our participants on their research journey.

To be shortlisted for this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • A genuine enthusiasm for the role
  • RN with substantial experience at Band 5 or above in a clinical NHS setting
  • Mentoring qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Ability to lead or coordinate a clinical shift or area of department
  • Competence/a willingness to become competent in extended roles ie venepuncture
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure across competing demands
  • A flexible approach to working to meet the needs of our patient group
  • Previous Research/Neurology experience (highly desirable, but not essential).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC register
  • Relevant degree or equivalent in nursing

Desirable

  • Health care management / leadership qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
  • Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
  • Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
  • Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
  • Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department
  • Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.

Desirable

  • Evidence of Research knowledge
  • Experience of clinical trials/ studies/ research coordination
