Help Preserve the Past. Shape the Future of Our Built Environment.
At Walker Consultants, we're looking for someone who sees more than just buildings. We're looking for someone who appreciates the craftsmanship, history, and character behind them and is passionate about ensuring they stand strong for generations to come.
In this role, you'll bring your technical expertise to a diverse portfolio of projects, from modern architectural developments to historic landmarks and iconic structures. You'll work directly with clients and collaborate with experienced professionals on building enclosure design, forensic investigations, restoration, and historic preservation. Your work will span a variety of building enclosure systems, including waterproofing, plazas and podiums, exterior walls, historic masonry and façades, fenestration systems, and roofing assemblies.
You'll have the opportunity to contribute to every stage of the project lifecycle, including condition assessments, investigations, restoration design, peer reviews, construction administration, and testing. Whether you're helping breathe new life into a historic building or improving the performance of a modern structure, you'll tackle unique technical challenges, develop creative solutions, and make a lasting impact on the buildings and communities we serve.
What You'll Do
- Perform building envelope investigations and historic building assessments, preparing technical reports documenting findings, deficiencies, and recommendations for repair, restoration, or preservation.
- Evaluate existing building conditions, including historic masonry, façades, roofing systems, windows, and architectural features, to develop appropriate repair and restoration solutions. Experience with historic structural systems preferred.
- Prepare construction documents, repair recommendations, and opinions of probable construction costs for building envelope, restoration, and historic preservation projects.
- Perform construction administration services, including RFI and submittal reviews, site visits, field observations, and punch list inspections.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, clients, and preservation professionals to review project findings, designs, restoration approaches, and construction progress.
- Participate in field investigations, material assessments, and testing while supporting project quality, budgets, and schedules.
- Support client relationships and business development efforts, including preparation of RFQ/RFP responses.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
- Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited institution.
Additional Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in building envelope consulting, waterproofing, restoration, or related services.
- Strong knowledge of exterior building systems and materials, including façades, roofing, waterproofing, windows, and masonry.
- Experience with new construction and the investigation, evaluation, and restoration of existing structures.
- Experience with historic preservation, historic building assessments, or restoration of historic structures is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license preferred.
- SPRAT Level 1 certification is a plus.
- Project management experience, including coordinating project teams, managing budgets and schedules, and maintaining client relationships, is preferred.
- Ability to coordinate with project teams, clients, and outside consultants while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Strong technical communication skills, including preparation of reports, repair recommendations, and RFQ/RFP responses.
- A collaborative, client-focused mindset with an interest in business development.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., including hoses, testing equipment, and other field materials.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
