Position: Business Development Manager - Power Generation
Location: Doha, Qatar
Sector: Power Generation / Energy
Employment Type: Permanent
Reports To: Chief Business Development Officer
Relocation: Relocation assistance provided for successful candidates
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with deep expertise specifically within the power generation industry. The role requires a proven track record of managing the end-to-end development of large-scale power projects, from opportunity identification and feasibility through commercial structuring, negotiation, development and execution.
Candidates must have strong exposure to conventional power generation assets. Experience limited solely to renewable energy will not be sufficient; solar and wind experience will be considered an advantage alongside substantial conventional power experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end development of large-scale power generation projects, from opportunity identification, feasibility and investment assessment through commercial structuring, negotiation and project development.
- Identify and evaluate new power-sector investment opportunities across international markets, conducting commercial, financial, technical and market assessments to support investment decisions.
- Lead commercial risk evaluation and contractual negotiations, working with developers, contractors, partners, advisors and other stakeholders on key project and legal documentation.
- Assess technical and project-development risks, including construction, EPC, operational and delivery considerations, and coordinate with technical, finance, M&A and other specialist teams.
- Build and manage strategic relationships with developers, contractors, investors, business partners, consultants and government-related stakeholders, supporting project execution and long-term growth.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or a related discipline from a reputable university; an MBA is advantageous.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years with progressively increasing managerial responsibility and substantial experience specifically within the power generation industry.
- Proven track record of managing the development of large-scale power projects from start to finish, with solid exposure to conventional power plants; renewable-only backgrounds are not sufficient.
- Strong hands-on expertise across the commercial aspects of power-project development, including commercial risk valuation, financial/feasibility assessment, legal and contractual negotiations, and technical risk evaluation.
- Strong strategic, negotiation, stakeholder-management and leadership capabilities with knowledge of international power markets. Solar and wind experience is advantageous when combined with substantial conventional power-generation experience.
