Remote Drone Pilot and Ground Operator — Western Romania
About Skyy Network
Skyy Network runs Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations in places where nobody has flown them before. In Romania we fly medical payloads for MedLife across the western region, in live commercial service, under approvals we built from scratch. We also operate around the world.
The role
We are hiring a Remote Drone Pilot and Ground Operator to join the Romania team, reporting to our Regional Operations Manager.
This is a hands-on operational role. You will be flying, not sitting behind a desk all day. Our schedule is set by the flying programme and the weather.
What the work includes:
- Flying BVLOS missions as remote pilot, including pre-flight inspections, launch, monitoring and recovery
- Ground operations at launch and landing sites, including payload handling and site setup
- Mission planning, route validation and contingency site work
- Routine maintenance and first-line troubleshooting
- Occasional liaison with customers, site partners and regulators
- Domestic travel across our Romanian sites, with opportunities to support our international operations
We are growing. New corridors and new sites are coming, and the person who fills this role well will have more in front of them than the job they start with.
How we judge good work
We assess everyone at Skyy against the same four pillars, from pilot to executive.
Clarity. You know what today's priorities are and what finished looks like. You ask early when something is unclear instead of guessing. You write things down so a colleague in another country can pick them up without a phone call.
Ownership. You prepare properly and follow work through to the end without being chased. When you spot a problem you raise it early, with options attached.
Delivery. You work reliably, to standard, on time.
Learning. You take feedback from debriefs and apply it. You do not make the same mistake twice. You share what you learn instead of keeping it in your head.
Safety Always. Raising a concern is always welcome and never punished. Anyone here, on their first day or their tenth year, has the authority to stop a flight. We investigate to understand the system, not to find someone to blame.
What we are looking for
- Sound judgement under uncertainty, particularly on weather and go/no-go calls. We want people who can hold a position either way and explain their reasoning, not people who make decisions to be safe from feedback
- Procedural discipline. Checklists, cross-checks and standard practice, every time, including when it is inconvenient
- Curiosity about how the system actually works, and the willingness to test the things everyone assumes are working
- Comfort with ambiguity and change. Our operations move quickly and the answer is not always written down yet
- Romanian and English, both spoken and written. All our procedures, briefs and records are in English
- Willingness to travel domestically, and a valid driving license
Experience and qualifications
We will train the right person, so treat the list below as highly desirable rather than a barrier.
- Drone operating experience, particularly on larger platforms or in a commercial or operational setting, rather than handheld DJI photography
- An existing EASA or AACR remote pilot certificate
- A background in aviation, engineering, defence, emergency services or another technical or safety-critical field
- Experience with mission planning software, ground control stations or maintenance record keeping
What we offer
- Pay range proportional to experience and qualifications, for discussion during interviews.
- Relocation assistance available for the right candidate
- Real BVLOS experience on live commercial operations, which very few pilots anywhere can currently claim
- A path into our international operations as we expand
Interested?
We are building a pipeline of talent ahead of our next expansion, so there is no fixed start date. If this sounds like you, send an expression of interest with your CV and a short note on why to hello@skyy.network
