Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO), Prosthetics Focus
Steinmann Prosthetics & Orthotics | Las Cruces, NM (with travel to Alamogordo) | Full-time, on-site
About Us
Steinmann Prosthetics & Orthotics is a family-owned prosthetic and orthotic practice that has served southern New Mexico for over 20 years. Our home clinic is in Las Cruces, and our team also travels to our Alamogordo clinic to see patients closer to home. We pair in-house fabrication with a digital workflow, including 3D scanning and an in-house 3D printer, so we can move quickly from evaluation to a well-fitting device.
We’re a small, growing practice, and our prosthetic program is a major part of that growth. We’re looking for a clinician who can come in, show us what they can do, and help lead prosthetic care here. We’re open to new ideas, new techniques, and better ways of working, and we want someone who will bring them to the table.
What You’ll Do
- Lead prosthetic care from evaluation through delivery and long-term follow-up, primarily lower extremity (transtibial, transfemoral, partial foot, and knee disarticulation)
- Evaluate new amputees and existing users, set functional goals and K-levels, and build individualized treatment plans
- Scan, cast, and measure residual limbs; design and rectify sockets digitally and by hand
- Design, print, and post-process test sockets, liners, components, and orthotic devices on our in-house 3D printer
- Fit check sockets, perform static and dynamic alignment, and adjust to optimize comfort, gait, and function
- Select and integrate components, including feet, knees, suspension systems, and liners, based on each patient’s needs and activity level
- Work alongside our fabrication team on definitive sockets and devices
- See orthotic patients as part of a mixed caseload
- Partner with physicians, physical therapists, and rehab teams on patient progress
- Document evaluations, medical necessity, plans, and outcomes accurately and on time in our EHR, in line with Medicare, Medicaid, and payer requirements
- Educate patients and caregivers on donning, doffing, skin care, wear schedules, and device care
- Travel to our Alamogordo clinic on scheduled days to see patients there
- Bring new ideas to our prosthetic program and digital workflow, and help put them into practice
What You Bring
- Active ABC or BOC certification as a CPO or CP
- Master’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics, or a bachelor’s degree with completed residency and certification
- Clinical prosthetic experience, including socket design, check socket fitting, and alignment
- Working knowledge of current prosthetic components and how to match them to K-level and patient goals
- Experience with 3D scanning, CAD socket design, and 3D printing strongly preferred; clinicians with a solid prosthetic background and a genuine drive to learn digital fabrication will also be considered
- Self-starter who takes initiative and is comfortable owning patient cases from start to finish
- Curiosity and willingness to try new approaches, materials, and technology
- Sound clinical judgment and a patient-first approach
- Strong documentation habits, especially around medical necessity and K-level justification
- Comfort with fabrication materials, shop equipment, and clinical tools
- Clear, warm communication with patients, families, and clinical partners
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 25 lbs regularly
- Valid driver’s license for travel between clinics
Nice to Have
- A portfolio or examples of sockets or devices you’ve designed or printed
- Upper extremity prosthetic experience
- Experience with microprocessor knees and advanced suspension systems
- Experience in a small practice or multi-site clinic
- Spanish language skills
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience and credentials
- Relocation assistance
- Medical insurance through UnitedHealthcare, with the company covering 80% of employee premiums
- HSA option with the high-deductible plan
- Dental and vision insurance
- Voluntary life and AD&D coverage
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Continuing education support, including digital fabrication training
- ABC/BOC certification renewal costs covered
- A supportive, family-oriented team and real room to grow with the practice
