Chief of Staff to the CEO | San Francisco (On-site, 5 days/week) | $200K - $400K base + equity
BY Recruiting is partnering with a high-growth, AI-native company transforming a trillion-dollar legacy industry. Backed by top-tier VCs and scaling rapidly, the company is expanding into multiple new businesses and is hiring a Chief of Staff to serve as a strategic right hand to the CEO.
This is a high-ownership strategic role, not an administrative or coordination position. You will own the most critical cross-functional problems, drive new growth initiatives, and be positioned to eventually own a P&L.
What you will do
- Own and drive the most critical cross-functional projects across multiple business lines: identify bottlenecks, solve ambiguous problems, and deliver outcomes
- Serve as a thought partner to the CEO on new growth opportunities, potentially quarterbacking and launching new businesses or verticals
- Design and scale operating rhythms across the company, including business reviews, data and insights cadences, and board storytelling
- Work directly with business unit leaders to spot patterns, remove blockers, and accelerate growth
- Travel 10% to 30% of the time to other offices and key meetings alongside the CEO
What we are looking for
- 9 to 10+ years of experience in high-ownership roles
- Operating experience at a high-growth, venture-backed startup (Series B to D) during its rapid scaling phase
- Has built something 0-to-1 inside a growth-stage startup (new business line, market, or product)
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills; able to parse data, build models, and drive decisions independently
- AI-native: actively builds tools and automations using AI (e.g. Claude, Cursor), not just prompting
- Executive presence and the confidence to push back on senior leaders while operating with limited direction
- Motivated by a path to P&L ownership or launching a new business unit
- Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco; 5 days per week in office
Nice to have
- 2+ years at a top-tier consulting firm, investment bank, or private equity firm
- Previous founding experience
- Rapid career progression at a single company
- MBA from a top-tier program
Why join
- Rocket-ship growth at a well-capitalized, late-stage venture-backed company
- Direct partnership with the CEO on high-impact initiatives from day one
- A launchpad to own a dedicated P&L for a business unit you help build
- $200K to $400K base plus competitive equity, 100% employer-paid medical, and 401k match
- Open to visa transfers (e.g. OPT, H1B transfers)
