The Role
This is for 1 full-time fixed term Clinical Associate in Applied Psychologist (CAAP) for the Specialist Children’s Services Neurodevelopmental Waiting list team. Newly qualifying or soon to qualify psychologists are welcome to apply.
You will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, using clinical revalidation tools to apply clinical criteria to an existing neurodevelopmental waiting list. This may also include following up through delivering groups and prescribed interventions with training and supervision.
You will be part of a grouping of more than 100 psychologists in Specialist Children’s Services and of around 350 psychologists in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. There are good links both to the West of Scotland Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme (University of Glasgow) and to the MSc in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People (University of Edinburgh)
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Templeton Business Centre
- Fixed-term Contract for 18 months
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00
- To provide assessment and treatment recommendations for mental health disorders of mild-moderate severity.
- To provide a range of assessment measures and procedures that are compatible with children / young people and their families.
- To carry a specialist case-load of children and young people.
- To be able to assess the pre-disposing and precipitating factors that give rise to patient presenting problems.
- Assessment measures will include established psychometric measures, systematic observation and measurement of emotional state, cognitions and behaviour in a variety of settings. In addition assessment will include self-motivating strategies for clients.
- Assessments will be undertaken on a one-to-one basis with clients, their carers and also in group settings.
- On the basis of information collated during assessment to be able to provide a formulation for presenting problems that describes their aetiology, maintenance and appropriate methods of intervention.
- In cases of complicated presentation and/or formulations, consultation with appropriate supervisor to be undertaken prior to commencement of intervention.
- To be able to provide a range of individual and group interventions that are evidence based and are clearly conceptualised within the formulation.
- To provide evaluation of therapeutic interventions in relation to change over treatment time that might involve a number of dimensions such as behaviour change, cognitive and emotional change.
- Practitioners are required to evaluate their own clinical practice whilst working with individuals or groups and to participate in regular supervision with designated Clinical Psychologist.
- To communicate through written reports and/or verbal feedback, the formulation and psychological understanding of a child / young person’s difficulties to referrers, patients and other involved disciplines or agencies.

Essential
- Honours degree in Psychology (eligible for GBC).
- Postgraduate MSc in Applied Psychology (Healthcare) for Children and Young People.
- Experience of a range of mental health conditions in children and young people.
- Ability to understand and present complex clinical information.
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Experience in a CAMHS setting.
- Further training/qualification in an evidence-based psychotherapy other than CBT.
- Approved training in supervision skills for model-based psychological therapies.
- BPS wider psychological workforce registration.
- Experience of delivering evidence-based psychological therapy groups.
- Experience of delivering psycho-educational materials.
- Experience of training/supervising others in psychological therapies.
- Experience of using outcome measures.
- Experience of writing reports for dissemination to others.
- Eligible to train others in model-based psychological therapies.
