The Department of Health is responsible for health services and social programming in Nunavut. Staff at the Department of Health work to improve the health and well-being of Nunavummiut by addressing the differing needs of each community through culturally appropriate programs and services. Reporting to the Territorial Health Education Manager , the Clinical Nurse Educator works with nursing service managers to identify nursing competencies in all areas of nursing services (medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, emergency, ambulatory, operating room nursing services), assisting managers with the assessment of nursing practices, identify learning need providing clinical expertise, and teaching and/or coordinating teaching orientation. Other responsibilities for the Clinical Nurse Educator include: Developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating the orientation program for all hospital nursing staff; Developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating clinical instruction programs for advanced nursing skills and required re-certifications; and Coordinating clinical placements for nursing students and other learners within the hospital. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a bachelor’s degree in nursing, with a minimum of three years of broad-based clinical nursing experience. Recognized advanced nursing skills in obstetrics, pediatrics, and critical care/emergency nursing. Assets include: Formal training in adult education or clinical teaching methodologies; Previous experience as a clinical educator or preceptor; Instructor certifications such as CPR, NRP, BCLS, ACLS, BTLS. PALS (or equivalents). Candidates must be eligible to register with CANNN. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. For full-time, permanent nurses, recruitment bonuses include: $5,000 on start date, $5,000 at 18 months of service and $10,000 at 30 months of service. Additional premium includes a $375 Monthly Retention Bonus of $4,500 per year. An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies. The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a representative workforce; therefore, priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy. Government of Nunavut employees serving a probationary period must obtain and provide written authorization from the deputy head of their employing department. An assessment of the criminal record will be measured against the scope and duties of the position.
