The Team
The Launceston General Hospital is the principal referral hospital in the region for more than a quarter of a million people.
The Launceston General Hospital (LGH) provides a Level 5 neonatal service and works closely with Maternity Services to deliver comprehensive care to mothers and babies across Northern Tasmania. Women's and Children's Services comprises a 6-bed Labour Ward, 27-bed Maternity Unit, and a 9-bed Level 2 Special Care Nursery caring for neonates from 32 weeks gestation and above.
Special Care Nursery provides family-centred neonatal care for babies requiring additional monitoring, treatment, and support, while working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal outcomes for infants and their families.
Women's and Children's Services offers free Clinical Supervision for nurses and midwives and fosters a supportive culture of professional development, education, and continuous quality improvement.
The Role
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) - Special Care Nursery facilitates and supports the education, professional development, and clinical capability of nursing staff, students, and learners within Women's and Children's Services, with a specific focus on neonatal care.
As a key member of the Women's and Children's Services leadership team, the Clinical Nurse Educator contributes to workforce development, succession planning, quality improvement initiatives, policy and procedure development, and the achievement of strategic and operational service goals.
The successful applicant will:
- Lead, coordinate, and evaluate educational programs that support evidence-based neonatal nursing practice.
- Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, graduates, and students working within the Special Care Nursery.
- Support the delivery of high-quality care to neonates from 32 weeks gestation and above through education, competency development, and clinical leadership.
- Promote family-centred care principles and support staff in partnering with families to achieve positive health outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement, accreditation, and patient safety activities to enhance neonatal services.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain best practice standards and support service innovation.
- Assist in the orientation, transition, and ongoing professional development of nurses across Women's and Children's Services.
- Provide neonatal nursing expertise and consultation to inpatient units and other clinical areas as required.
You will need
- Demonstrated advanced level knowledge, skills and clinical experience and the ability to lead change in nursing practice through a quality and safety framework.
- Ability to apply teaching and learning strategies in the clinical area, including the development, implementation and evaluation of professional development, education and training activities.
- Sound knowledge of contemporary education, health and professional development issues (inclusive of critical thinking and reasoning, and reflective practice), National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and their impact on the knowledge and skill requirements of the nursing workforce, and patient care.
- Holds, or is working towards, relevant postgraduate qualifications in neonatal nursing, paediatrics, education, or a related specialty area.

Details of appointment
Permanent part time, day worker, working 48 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary
$118,297 to $125,543 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
