Job Description

The Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) region and the Department of Clinical Health Psychology, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba invite applications for a Geographic Full-Time (GFT, contingent) Clinical Psychologist (Position #33685) with a flexible start date. This permanent position integrates clinical and academic roles (typically 80% clinical; 20% clinical teaching/applied research). The successful applicant will be appointed to the Medical Staff of the PMH region and will be appointed to the Department of Clinical Health Psychology, Max Rady College of Medicine, at the academic rank commensurate with experience, typically Assistant Professor. Current interns/residents are welcome to apply.

The Clinical Psychologist, under the direction of Psychology leadership and in collaboration with Mental Health leadership, provides consultation, standard and complex assessments, diagnosis, and clinical treatment for both adult and child & adolescent mental health services, with opportunity for inpatient consult to the mental health unit at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre. The Psychologist offers clinical leadership to other staff and team members on a wide range of psychological issues. The successful candidate would join a strong team of health care professionals which includes psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and community mental health workers.

The position is based in Dauphin, Manitoba, which is close to Riding Mountain National Park, a scenic parkland area known for its camping, hiking, fishing, and recreational watersports. Dauphin is close to the western hub city of Brandon, and is a three-hour drive northwest of Winnipeg. Prairie Mountain Health region spans the southwestern part of the province, and has culturally diverse communities which include newcomers and an Indigenous population. The PMH Mental Health program offers a full spectrum of community and hospital-based services across the life span.

Clinical Health Psychology (CHP) is unique in Canada, being both an academic department in the Max Rady College of Medicine and a provincially-led clinical service in the Manitoba health system, with a mandate to provide psychological services across a range of hospital and community sites in urban and rural/northern settings. As a member of CHP, the Psychologist joins a large team of dedicated psychologist colleagues across the province who provide mentoring, consultation, and collegial support. Position Responsibilities

  • Clinical services to children, adolescents, and adults with mental health concerns, including diagnostic and cognitive assessment and evidence-based treatment (individual; group-delivered).
  • Consultation to inter-disciplinary team staff regarding psychological aspects of care (e.g., case conceptualization, treatment planning/implementation)
  • Clinical program development and evaluation.
  • Supervision of psychology residents in our CPA-accredited residency training program; teaching of medical students and other health profession learners; continuing professional education of health professionals.
  • Applied clinical research.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA-accredited clinical psychology training program, and completion of a CPA or APA-accredited internship/residency.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Psychologist (C.Psych.) with the Psychological Association of Manitoba www.cpmb.ca
  • Education, training and experience in diagnostic evaluation, and administration and interpretation of standard adult psychodiagnostic and cognitive psychological tests and measures.
  • Education, training and experience in adult evidence-based psychological interventions and individual & group treatment delivery for a range of mental health conditions.
  • Education, training and experience in child and adolescent psychological assessment and treatment.
  • Ability to provide consultation to interdisciplinary teams including to other mental health professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and inter-professional teamwork skills.
  • Training, experience and/or research background/interests in Indigenous health would be an asset.
  • Satisfactory results of pre-employment criminal records, child and adult abuse registry, and vulnerable persons checks required.
  • A vehicle and valid driver’s license are required, for occasional travel to communities in the region.

  • The Geographic Full-Time (GFT) agreement provides the opportunity for on-site private practice.
  • Supervision will be provided by the CHP Program for individuals registered at the C.Psych. Candidate level, until completion of registration requirements for independent practice as a C.Psych., with subsequent consultation support.
