A federally qualified health center serving Maui across three clinics is hiring a full-time NP for independent adult primary care. Many patients are medically complex, with multiple comorbidities, recent hospital discharges, or no consistent care before. The community is diverse, and trained community health workers and interpreters support visits in Tagalog, Ilocano, Chuukese, Marshallese, Spanish, and Pohnpeian. You'll work with a dedicated RN and MA and get 4 hours of protected admin time every week. The schedule leaves every 4th slot open for catch-up. The culture is trauma-informed, first-name-basis, and treats every NP and MD as a provider, with no "mid-level" label. This role is not for new grads: at least 1 year of independent NP practice is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide independent adult primary care: chronic disease management, acute triage, and preventive care
  • See patients in 15-minute slots, with the 4th slot of every hour left open for catch-up, callbacks, or walk-ins
  • Work with a dedicated RN and MA who help open and close charts and give injections
  • Use 4 hours of protected weekly admin time for chart closure, refills, labs, and callbacks
  • Rotate to the Kahana clinic 1–2 days/week and take periodic evening shifts (10 AM–7 PM) like all providers
  • Join weekly peer case consultations and the monthly all-staff meeting
  • Care for every patient with dignity and without judgment

Qualifications

  • Active Hawaii NP license, or license-eligible (credentialing takes about 4–6 weeks)
  • Board-certified FNP, AGNP, AGPCNP, or ANP (AGACNP not accepted; this is a primary care role)
  • Minimum 1 year of independent NP practice; NP residency a plus
  • Active DEA registration with a Hawaii address (clinic address can be used; cost reimbursed), plus Hawaii state narcotics (NED) registration once DEA is active
  • Comfortable managing complex adult patients with significant comorbidities in a fast-paced setting
  • Genuine interest in this community, with humility and openness to learning local norms
  • FQHC or community health experience a plus

Schedule & Compensation

  • $135,000–$165,000/year base
  • $10,000 sign-on bonus (use it for relocation or anything else)
  • Annual incentive up to $10,000 (the first tier alone pays $7,000)
  • Full-time | 40 hrs/week: 36 patient-facing + 4 protected admin
  • Fully onsite | Kahana rotation 1–2 days/week | Periodic evening shifts
  • Medical, dental, vision | Malpractice | CE assistance | PTO
  • DEA cost reimbursed | May qualify for federal loan repayment through FQHC status
  • 2-week no-patient onboarding (Epic training, shadowing), then a gradual ramp from 8–10 to ~18 patients/day
