About the Role
Coleman Company, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Municipal Construction Inspector to join our team in Brunswick, Georgia, providing day-to-day oversight of municipal infrastructure projects across coastal Georgia. This is an exciting opportunity for a field-focused construction professional who takes pride in quality work, clear documentation, and building projects that serve our communities for decades to come.
Working under the supervision of professional engineers and senior inspectors, you will support the owner, in the field, from preconstruction through final inspection and closeout, working alongside top Engineers, Project Managers, Contractors, and municipal clients to deliver boldly and deliver right.
What We Are Looking For:
We are seeking an intermediate-level inspector with a strong technical foundation and sound professional judgment. The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, and confident communicating with contractors, clients, and the public, and knows how to keep projects moving with the least possible interruption to the work. This role receives moderate supervision, with your supervisor screening assignments for unusual or difficult problems and providing guidance on non-routine work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day oversight of municipal construction projects under the supervision of a Professional Engineer
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts to verify work conforms to the contract documents
- Represent the Owner at construction meetings and material, equipment, quality assurance tests required by the contract documents
- Schedule and attend preconstruction meetings, and perform final inspections and project closeout
- Review shop drawings and submittals for conformity to the contract documents
- Prepare and electronically submit inspection reports and other project correspondence
- Review contractor payment applications, verify quantities of completed work, and recommend payment to the Owner
- Monitor construction progress relative to the contractor's project schedule
- Monitor erosion control BMPs, conduct construction NPDES stormwater sampling, and prepare monthly reports for submittal to resource agencies
- Coordinate preparation of record documents
- Keep the in-house project team informed of construction progress and any issues or problems encountered
- Interact positively and professionally with contractors, clients, industry professionals, and residents and business owners impacted by construction
- May supervise and coordinate one or more other inspectors
- Conduct field and desktop-based inspections of facilities and infrastructure impacted by disasters
- Evaluate and document damages to public buildings, roads, bridges, utilities, parks, drainage systems, and other facilities
- Capture photographs, measurements, observations, and site conditions
- Document building and site-specific attributes using data collection applications and technology platforms
- Verify reported damages and support validation of project information
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field, plus related continuing education
- 3 - 5+ years of progressive experience in construction inspection or a related field
- Thorough working knowledge of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, general science, and scales of weight and measurement as applied to engineering computations and construction
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts
- Thorough knowledge of erosion control BMPs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high degree of accuracy in all work and documentation
- Comfortable using electronic reporting and data collection tools
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- NPDES Level 1B certification
Preferred:
- Experience inspecting municipal infrastructure such as roadways, water, sewer, and stormwater systems
- Experience with disaster damage assessments and recovery funding programs, such as FEMA Public Assistance
- Experience supervising or coordinating other inspectors
- Additional inspection certifications, such as GDOT or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician
