Corporate Controller (Maternity Leave Coverage - Fixed-Term, Full-Time) About Leap At Leap, we believe the future of retail is omnichannel and the next generation of brands belong in neighborhoods, not just on screens. Today, the Leap platform powers retail across over 100 stores for more than 50 brands with ambitions of scaling to thousands of stores and hundreds of brands. We don’t just operate stores, we bring brands to life, with built-in advantages powered by data, systems, and scale. Whether you’re based at our NYC headquarters or on the front lines at one of our stores, we are one team with aligned goals. We move with disciplined urgency to solve the challenging complexities of retail, ensuring that every store we launch and operate is high-performing and every shopper always feels welcomed. Our platform provides the data and infrastructure across our +100 stores, however, our people are the key to our success. We are looking for smart, energized individuals who are ready to act as owners and help us build our platform — both in-store and at our NYC-based HQ. So, come take this leap with us and help us rewrite the future of retail. About the Role Leap Inc. is seeking an experienced accounting leader to provide maternity leave coverage for our Corporate Controller from November 1, 2026 through May 31, 2027 (includes a 2-month overlap with the current Controller). Reporting to the EVP Commercial Strategy and Finance, this person will directly oversee a Senior Accountant and AP/AR Specialist while working closely with the FP&A team and our CEO. This role is suited for an accounting professional with strong business acumen, excellent management skills, and deep knowledge of platforms like NetSuite, Ramp, and Excel. Given the fixed-term nature of this coverage, the ideal candidate can ramp up quickly, operate independently from day one, and ensure uninterrupted continuity across the accounting function. Role Location This role is based in New York City with an expectation to be in the office at least three days a week. Core Responsibilities: Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting: Directly oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including brand billing, month-end close, financial statement preparation, cash flow analysis, ERP (NetSuite) maintenance, Stock Option workflows (Carta), and internal accounting processes. Operate as a hands-on Controller within a lean team, directly preparing and reviewing key deliverables such as lease accounting, P&L review, bank reconciliations, bad debt expense, and revenue recognition (including deferred revenue). Ensure leases are paid on time and in full with proper accounting each month. Issue timely and accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with US GAAP. Provide strategic insight and analysis on business performance, budgeting, and projections. Evaluate, streamline, and recommend improvements to financial systems, processes, and controls to drive operational efficiency. Investigate and resolve account discrepancies with efficiency and accuracy. Ensure proper internal controls are in place to support timely and accurate financial reporting while safeguarding corporate assets. Team Leadership & Management: Directly oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting team, including AP, AR, brand billing, rent management, and month-end close. Foster strong internal relationships with cross-functional teams and communicate accounting strategy and priorities effectively. Maintain a positive, collaborative team environment and continue team development initiatives already underway. Compliance & Risk Management: Handle all tax planning and compliance with required federal, state, local, payroll, property, and other taxes; prepare and coordinate tax schedules, returns, and information requests. Ensure compliance with filing deadlines, tax payments, and financial regulations. Manage insurance company relationships and ensure ongoing compliance. Manage all business administration and corporate registration filings to maintain state-by-state and federal good standing. Candidate Requirements: CPA required. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience. NetSuite experience required. Lease accounting experience required. Must be based in the NYC area and able to work in-office 1–2 days per week for the duration of the coverage period. Deep proficiency in GAAP accounting and financial statement preparation, including month-end and year-end close processes. Proven experience managing teams and fostering strong internal and external relationships. Demonstrated ability to step into an existing function quickly and maintain continuity with minimal ramp-up time. Candidate Preferences: Strong preference for candidates with accounting backgrounds in retail, high-growth startups, SaaS, and “build-the-department” roles. Track record of driving transformation and efficiencies in controls and accounting systems. Willingness to be both player and coach in a startup environment where everyone executes. Strong analytical and technical accounting skills. Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort operating in a dynamic, high-growth environment. Salary Range Transparency: $160,000 – $190,000 / year (Annualized for the 6-month contract) Compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, competencies, and qualifications. Work Authorization Applicants must be able to provide valid U.S. work authorization. Visa sponsorship is strictly limited to mission-critical dependencies that cannot be fulfilled through local recruitment efforts. Leap EEO Statement However you identify, whatever your path to get here; Leap celebrates diversity and is committed to maintaining a safe, rewarding, and inclusive environment where Leapers thrive individually and as a team. In order to achieve our mission — building the world's largest network of branded retail stores, powered by data, systems, and scale — we need to work hard to foster a diverse community to support the brands and customers we serve. These aren't just words, this is who we are. We know that our differences are what make our organization special and are paramount to our culture. Your age, skin color, beliefs, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, parental status, vet status, and gender identity are valued. Thank you for your interest in this opportunity! Unfortunately, due to the high volume of inquiries received, we may not be able to respond to all applicants.
