Inside the Role

Why Detroit

Detroit is a leading powertrain and technology brand within Daimler Truck North America. Our products and services help keep commercial vehicles and the businesses that depend on them moving. In this role, you will work at the intersection of manufacturing, research and development, information technology, and business operations, helping teams use data and technology more effectively to improve performance, strengthen compliance, accelerate innovation, and make better decisions.

Inside the Role

The Manager of Data Science & Business Intelligence leads a cross-functional team of data scientists, data engineers, data analysts, business analysts and developers responsible for delivering scalable data products, analytics, custom applications, automations and cross-functional technology solutions for Detroit. This leader sets direction for data strategy, digitalization, and custom solution delivery, translates business priorities into a practical roadmap and portfolio, and partners across IT and business functions to deliver secure, reliable, reusable, and sustainable solutions.
The role combines people leadership, strategic planning, technical judgment, project and product delivery, and operational accountability. The successful candidate can connect complex data and technology choices to measurable business outcomes while building a high-performing, customer-focused team.

  • Manage the team portfolio, vendors, budgets, capacity, dependencies, operational support, technical debt, and delivery risks; balance incoming demand, strategic initiatives, and the reliability of business-critical services.
  • Promote reusable solutions, self-service analytics, technical standards, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the organization.

  • 2 or more years of formal people leadership or demonstrated experience leading and developing analytics or data teams.
  • Experience translating ambiguous business needs into prioritized roadmaps, requirements, analytical approaches, and scalable production solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of data architecture, dimensional and semantic modeling, data warehouses or lakehouses, integration patterns, ETL/ELT, APIs, metadata, data quality, and governance.
  • Proficiency with SQL and experience with Python, R, or a comparable analytical programming language.
  • Experience with business intelligence and visualization platforms such as Microsoft Power BI, or comparable tools, including dashboard design and governed self-service analytics.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing data environments, including manufacturing execution systems, industrial data, telemetry, or product-development data.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud, data engineering, analytics, project management, agile delivery, or data governance.
  • Experience leading organizational change, building data literacy, and increasing adoption of standardized products and services.

Leadership Capabilities

  • Inclusive people leader who sets clear expectations, develops talent, and creates accountability and psychological safety.
  • Customer-focused partner who listens, simplifies complexity, and builds trust through reliable delivery.
  • Pragmatic technical leader who balances innovation, speed, cost, security, quality, and maintainability.
  • Compelling communicator who turns analysis into a clear story, recommendation, and call to action.
  • Enterprise collaborator who aligns local needs with global standards while preserving responsiveness to Detroit business priorities.

What Success Looks Like

  • Business partners consistently use trusted data products, analytics, custom applications, and automation to make faster, better-informed decisions and operate more effectively.
  • The portfolio is prioritized against measurable value, adoption, risk, compliance, customer impact, and strategic alignment.
