What you’ll do:

Eaton’s Enterprise Engineering Codes & Standards Center of Excellence is seeking a Director to help shape Eaton’s strategic response to rapidly evolving codes and standards affecting data centers and direct current applications. This highly visible role offers the opportunity to connect customer and industry priorities with Eaton’s engineering, product, and commercial organizations, helping the company anticipate change, address emerging safety and performance needs, and prepare for new market requirements.

Why this opportunity

  • Enterprise-wide visibility: Work across Eaton’s Electrical and Industrial Sectors and collaborate with engineering, product, commercial, and standards leaders.
  • Customer and industry engagement: Engage directly with customers, standards organizations, foundations, and other external stakeholders to understand emerging safety and performance needs.
  • Strategic industry impact: Help shape Eaton’s standards priorities and equip the company’s committee representatives with customer insights, technical considerations, and recommended positions.
  • Growing market relevance: Support evolving data center and DC applications where codes, safety expectations, and performance requirements continue to develop.
  • Broad organizational impact: Help Eaton’s product organizations understand and prepare for newly adopted standards and their business and technical implications.

This position offers a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of customer needs, emerging technologies, product strategy, and industry standards. The Director will have broad exposure across Eaton’s product, engineering, commercial, and standards organizations while developing relationships with customers and external industry groups. Rather than owning individual product certifications, this leader will focus on anticipating change, establishing organizational priorities, and helping Eaton’s businesses understand and respond to evolving requirements.

Through this role, the successful candidate will expand their enterprise leadership experience, deepen relationships across global product and commercial organizations, strengthen their external industry network, and build expertise at the intersection of standards strategy, customer engagement, and emerging electrical applications.

In this position you will:

  • Develop and execute strategies for monitoring, interpreting, and communicating codes and standards affecting Eaton’s Electrical and Industrial Sectors, with an emphasis on data centers and DC applications.
  • Engage with customers, industry organizations, foundations, and other stakeholders to understand emerging safety, performance, and application concerns.
  • Translate customer and market needs into clear standards-related priorities and communicate those priorities to Eaton employees who participate directly on industry standards committees.
  • The Director will serve as a bridge between external standards organizations and Eaton’s product groups.
  • Influence standards-development activities indirectly by providing Eaton’s committee representatives with customer insights, technical considerations, and recommended positions.
  • Monitor newly developed and adopted standards from organizations such as UL, NFPA, IEC, and other applicable standards bodies.
  • Evaluate the potential business, safety, performance, and product implications of new or revised standards and communicate those implications to Eaton’s product groups.
  • Explain why compliance with newly adopted standards is required and help product organizations understand the timing, scope, and business need associated with the requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison between external standards organizations and Eaton’s product groups to ensure awareness of new requirements and support organizational readiness.
  • Partner with engineering, product management, sales, and other internal stakeholders to address customer questions involving codes, standards, safety, and product performance.
  • Provide standards-related guidance and education to business units and commercial teams supporting data center and DC applications.
  • Prepare technical communications, presentations, and educational materials addressing emerging codes, standards, and customer requirements.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in codes and standards, including work with compliance and standards organizations
  • Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc
  • Must have or obtain passport and be willing to travel internationally.
  • Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates residing outside a 50 mile radius of Raleigh, NC, Beachwood, OH, Milwaukee, WI, Moon Township, PA or Peachtree City, GA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in IEC, NFPA, and UL standards for data centers and DC systems.
  • Technical knowledge of data center infrastructure, DC power systems, and product safety regulations.
  • Experience in influencing codes-making processes and participation in standards committees.
  • Strong understanding of power converters (UPS, inverters, chargers) and new product development processes.
