Director of Electronics Engineering

Advanced Robotics & Autonomous Systems

Paris, France | International Search

Salary: Competitive + equity + relocation support

Airbotics Talent are partnered with a well-funded European robotics company developing a new generation of advanced autonomous systems.

We are looking for a Director of Electronics Engineering to own electronics development across the complete robotic platform, while building the engineering team around them.

This is a hands-on leadership position spanning power, sensing, control and communications electronics. You will personally design and validate boards while establishing the architecture and engineering capability required to take integrated mobile robotic systems from early development through industrialisation and production.

You will join an ambitious international engineering team, with the opportunity to shape both the platform and the electronics function from an early stage.

The Role

You will own electronics end-to-end, from architecture and initial schematic through PCB design, bring-up, system validation, certification and production readiness.

This includes:

  • Defining the platform’s electronics architecture, balancing power budgets, performance, reliability and integration requirements
  • Designing analog, digital, mixed-signal and power electronics, including sensor interfaces and analog-to-digital conversion chains
  • Owning schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer
  • Developing power conversion, motor drive and switching systems, accounting for thermal performance and losses
  • Simulating and validating designs using tools such as LTspice, PLECS or Simulink
  • Leading bench bring-up, debugging and validation through complete system integration and field testing
  • Designing for EMC/EMI, grounding, shielding and demanding operating environments
  • Taking electronics beyond prototype through DFM/DFA, manufacturing transfer and production test readiness
  • Driving certification and working closely with mechanical, embedded software and autonomy teams
  • Building and leading the electronics team, including FPGA capability, while establishing design standards and reviews

You will operate as a player-coach: personally solving electronics and integration challenges while recruiting and developing the team.

The Person

This role suits an electronics leader who has helped deliver complete mobile robotic or similarly complex electromechanical systems, with experience extending beyond individual boards or working prototypes.

You are likely to have:

  • 7+ years of electronics engineering experience within robotics, autonomous vehicles, aerospace, automotive, defence or another complex electromechanical environment
  • Strong hands-on analog, digital and mixed-signal design experience, including sensing and signal acquisition
  • Deep power electronics knowledge across converters, motor drives, gate drivers and switching systems
  • Strong Altium Designer capability and experience using circuit simulation tools
  • Experience personally taking PCB designs through schematic, layout, bring-up and validation within an integrated physical system
  • Knowledge of embedded hardware, microcontrollers, digital interfaces and EMC/EMI design practices
  • Demonstrable experience taking electronics beyond prototype into industrialisation and repeatable production
  • Previous engineering leadership experience, alongside close collaboration with mechanical and embedded software teams

Experience with FPGA interfaces, high-speed buses, electronics certification, harsh-environment hardware or embedded software would be advantageous.

This role requires broad, hands-on electronics ownership across an integrated system. It is unlikely to suit candidates whose experience is confined to digital electronics, isolated board development or prototypes without a path into production, or those seeking a purely managerial position.

Why Join?

  • Own the electronics architecture of a new generation of autonomous systems
  • Build the electronics function and team from the ground up
  • Remain hands-on at Director level, taking designs from first schematic through production
  • Work alongside an ambitious international team spanning electronics, mechanical engineering, software and autonomy
  • Join a well-funded European deep-tech company, with relocation support available for a move to Paris
