Director of Engineering (London, Hybrid)

We're hiring a Director of Engineering in London to lead the next stage of growth for a fast-scaling AI engineering organization. You'll take the team from its current size to a much larger, globally distributed organization, and you'll be directly accountable for hiring, leadership development, operating cadence and technical culture across both AI engineering and deployment engineering. You'll work closely with the founders and have real decision-making authority over how engineering scales.

What you'll do

• Lead and scale the engineering organization through a period of fast headcount growth while keeping quality and pace high
• Build and develop engineering leaders, and set up the management layer and cross-team structures a distributed organization needs
• Set the operating cadence: planning, prioritization, hiring standards, onboarding and performance expectations across AI and deployment engineering
• Represent engineering externally with customers, partners and the wider technical community
• Partner with the founders on organizational strategy, headcount planning and the decisions that shape how the product is built and brought to market

You may be a fit if

• You've scaled an engineering organization from roughly 25 to 100+ people, with direct ownership of hiring, team structure and leadership development
• You've led a globally distributed engineering team and built leaders across regions
• You're technically credible across both AI engineering and production deployment infrastructure
• You've been through the post-Series B stage of a fast-growing company and know what scaling beyond an early team takes
• You're a confident public communicator who can represent engineering with customers and the technical community
• You studied at a top-tier university, or your work history shows the same caliber
• You're based in, or willing to relocate to, London, have the right to work in the UK, and can work from the office 4 days a week (Tuesday or Friday remote)

• Experience one level below director at a later-stage, high-growth AI company
• Building teams that combine AI research, applied ML and production deployment
• A start as a founding or early engineering leader before moving into a larger-scale build
