Drogue is building free-floating, off-grid energy platforms at sea for customers who can't get power fast enough on land. Using the ocean's thermal gradient, each platform generates affordable, baseload electricity with no grid interconnection queues, no permitting delays, and no fuel supply chains.
We're a small team of engineers taking on a first-of-its-kind challenge with proven hardware and first principles thinking. If you love hard problems and want to build something new, keep reading.
You make the plant run. Our platform is a tightly coupled system of electrical, mechanical, and thermodynamic subsystems operating in a harsh, remote environment. As our Electrical & Controls Engineer, you'll own everything from power generation and distribution to the sensors, valves, controllers, and software that operate the plant.
You'll start hands-on and grow a team around this work as we scale. You'll also be outward-facing, leading vendor integrations for major equipment and working with customers to ensure our platform meets their requirements.
Responsibilities:
Size and analyze electrical loads across the plant and data center, and specify generators, switchgear, and power distribution to meet them
Design and own the plant control system: every sensor, valve, actuator, and controller, plus the code that runs them
Build the supervisory system operators use to monitor and run the plant, including alarms, interlocks, and safe shutdown sequences
Validate power output and quality delivered to customer equipment, and translate customer requirements into electrical and controls specifications
Lead vendor integration and procurement for electrical and control equipment
Plan and execute testing, commissioning, and qualification of electrical and control systems
Qualifications:
B.S./M.S. in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Experience designing power systems and specifying generation and distribution equipment
Hands-on experience programming industrial controllers and building supervisory control systems
Experience taking systems from design through commissioning on complex hardware
Comfort working across mechanical and thermal disciplines
Experience in power plants, marine or offshore systems, and/or data center critical power
This role is based in Washington, D.C. and will include time at sea. We offer generous relocation assistance for candidates across the US. We pay our employees competitive salaries based on level of experience and offer meaningful equity in a fast growing company. Apply below, or reach out at jobs@drogue.com with questions.
