Electrical Engineer, Hardware Systems
Location: Mountain View, CA
Onsite
About the Role
An innovative AI hardware startup is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and bring up the electrical systems powering next-generation AI accelerators.
This role offers end-to-end ownership of board-level hardware, power delivery, and system-level electrical design, from initial schematics through PCB development, lab bring-up, validation, and production.
You'll work closely with silicon, packaging, signal and power integrity, thermal, and firmware teams to develop high-performance computing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Own schematic design and oversee PCB layout for AI accelerator boards and system hardware, including high-speed digital interfaces, power delivery, and clocking.
- Design and validate power-delivery networks (PDNs) and voltage rails for high-current accelerator silicon.
- Collaborate with SI/PI and packaging engineers to optimize board-to-package interfaces.
- Lead board bring-up, debugging, characterization, and validation using oscilloscopes, logic/protocol analyzers, and power/thermal instrumentation.
- Drive component selection, design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for testability (DFT).
- Work with contract manufacturers and vendors throughout fabrication, assembly, and production.
- Resolve complex electrical issues across silicon, packaging, hardware, thermal, and firmware teams.
- Leverage AI-assisted design and debugging tools to improve engineering efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in board-level or system-level electrical design for complex, high-speed digital systems.
- Strong experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools such as Altium, Cadence Allegro, or equivalent.
- Experience designing high-speed interfaces, including DDR/LPDDR, PCIe, and SerDes.
- Strong understanding of power-delivery design, signal integrity, power integrity, and board-level EMC.
- Hands-on experience with board bring-up, hardware debugging, and electrical validation.
- Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and power characterization equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing high-current PDNs for AI accelerators, GPUs, or other high-performance processors.
- Background in server hardware, hyperscale infrastructure, or high-performance computing platforms.
- Experience with FPGA-based systems and low-level firmware bring-up.
- Knowledge of thermal management and hardware/thermal co-design.
- Familiarity with electromagnetic simulation tools such as ANSYS HFSS, SIwave, or equivalent.
- Experience taking complex PCB designs from concept through production.
Final compensation will depend on experience, technical expertise, and role level.
