The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an experienced Electromechanical Technician (Technical Specialist - Electromechanical III/IV) to join the Electromechanical Control Department, which manages the Mechatronics Research Laboratory (MRL), and is part of the Vehicle Systems Division (VSD). VSD sits at the center of the ideas and data behind current and future systems supplying innovative research and development; technical evaluations during the acquisition process; conceptual and detailed design; assembly, integration, and test; and operational support. Comprised primarily of highly-trained mechanical and aerospace engineers, VSD provides national expertise in the areas of vehicle engineering; guidance, navigation, and controls; robotics; electro-mechanical devices; embedded systems; fluid mechanics; propulsion; thermal control; orbital mechanics; mechanisms; structures; structural dynamics; and dynamic environments. The Electromechanical Control Department (ECD) is a vital component of VSD, entrusted with the critical role of providing unparalleled technical support in the realm of control system hardware and algorithms for both spacecraft and launch vehicles. ECD specializes in sensors and actuators such as gyroscopes, star trackers, encoders, motors, accelerometers, reaction wheels, fast steering mirrors, servo mechanisms, GPS receivers, thrust vector control, and more. ECD engages in extensive technical studies and experimental investigations to bolster customer programs, including test and evaluation of control hardware and sensor systems. This position is onsite in El Segundo, CA., allowing for every other Friday off. What You’ll Be Doing Collaborate with engineering staff to implement research and test programs in the MRL Conduct tests and measurements. Resolve test issues. Evaluate test data and provide input and recommendations as appropriate Maintain laboratory readiness, including equipment functionality, measuring and test equipment calibration, safety protocols, etc. Ensure lab safety rules are followed and rectify any safety hazards and notify management What You Need to be Successful Minimum Requirements for Electromechanical Technician III: Completed relevant vocational trade school or apprenticeship 6 or more years of machine shop experience Mastery of instrument control, data collection techniques, data management, experiment design, setup and documentation Able to plan and execute tasks assigned using machine controller and advanced CAD/CAM software to draw parts and create toolpaths Ability to work under minimal supervision, proactive in self-initiated activities, and to work within timelines Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance, which is issued by the US government. US citizenship is required. In addition to the requirements above, the minimum requirements for Electromechanical Technician IV are: 8 or more years of machine shop experience Experience planning and executing tasks assigned using machine controller and advanced CAD/CAM software to draw parts and create toolpaths Experience in electronics How You Can Stand Out It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: Experience in sensor testing Experience with Thermal Vacuum testing Experience with LabView or dSPACE Proficiency in electronics We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
