Position Overview The Director of Emergency Services provides strategic and operational leadership for a high-volume Emergency Department, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. This leader is responsible for clinical excellence, financial performance, regulatory compliance, staffing, physician collaboration, quality improvement, and the overall performance of the department. The ideal candidate is an experienced emergency nursing leader who thrives in a fast-paced acute care environment and has a proven track record of building high-performing teams while improving patient outcomes and operational performance. Key Responsibilities Provide executive leadership for all Emergency Department operations, ensuring exceptional patient care, safety, and clinical outcomes. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Lead quality initiatives focused on patient safety, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based practice. Drive patient throughput, reduce wait times, improve departmental efficiency, and optimize patient flow. Develop, implement, and monitor departmental budgets, productivity, staffing plans, and resource utilization. Partner with physicians, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen clinical operations and enhance service delivery. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state, and federal regulatory requirements. Develop and mentor nursing leaders while promoting employee engagement, professional development, and succession planning. Oversee department policies, clinical standards, equipment readiness, and operational processes. Analyze performance metrics and implement strategies that improve quality, operational efficiency, patient satisfaction, and financial performance. Identify opportunities for service expansion, innovation, and strategic growth within Emergency Services. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Required Experience Minimum of 3 years of progressive Emergency Department leadership experience in an acute care hospital. Emergency Department Manager or Director experience within an acute care facility is required. Experience leading high-volume Emergency Department operations. Strong knowledge of emergency nursing practice, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and quality improvement. Proven experience managing budgets, staffing, productivity, and departmental performance. Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build collaborative physician relationships. Preferred Qualifications Five or more years of Emergency Services leadership experience. Previous oversight of a Level II or Level III Trauma Center. Experience implementing patient throughput initiatives and operational improvement strategies. Strong background in employee engagement, leadership development, and succession planning.
