We are now looking for an Engineering Manager to join the Transformation Office in Luleå and contribute to the development of our new fossil-free steel production.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who already has a solid engineering background and is ready to broaden their experience, take on greater responsibility and develop further within engineering management.
You do not need to have done everything before. While previous experience in engineering leadership is valuable, we are also open to candidates who have the right technical foundation, relevant industrial experience and the motivation to grow into the role. You will work alongside experienced colleagues within the Transformation Office and have the opportunity to learn and develop as part of the project.
Becoming part of the Transformation Office means being directly involved in SSAB’s journey towards fossil-free steel production. About The Position
As Engineering Manager, you will take an important role in Tactical Engineering Management within the Transformation Office.
You will support and coordinate engineering activities related to equipment, plant design and project execution, helping ensure that engineering is delivered according to schedule, budget, safety and quality requirements.
The role offers significant exposure to different parts of the Luleå transformation project and close collaboration with experienced engineering, construction and project professionals.

We are looking for someone with a strong engineering foundation who is motivated by complex industrial projects and interested in developing further within engineering management.
You may already have leadership or engineering management experience, or you may be an experienced engineer or project professional who is ready to take the next step.

About The Position

You Will Interface With
- Director of Engineering
- Engineering Management Office
- Construction teams
- Luleå Production Site
- External consultants and OEMs
- Strategic internal and external partners
- Lead and coordinate Tactical Engineering Management activities for large-scale industrial brownfield and greenfield CAPEX projects.
- Support effective engineering delivery for the Luleå transformation project, including management of interfaces, constructability, LEAN design strategies, safety and quality requirements.
- Support the Engineering Management Office in coordinating operational activities and engineering partners to achieve project objectives.
- Develop and optimize engineering support services aligned with project phases and requirements.
- Support forecasting, cost control and follow-up of engineering activities.
- Collaborate with Procurement on engineering-related contracts with equipment and installation vendors.
- Interface with engineering partners, OEMs and internal departments to support timely engineering delivery.
- Collaborate closely with Construction Area Technical Teams, engineering partners and OEMs.
- Contribute to the design and optimization of equipment and plant layouts, ensuring alignment between technical requirements and overall project objectives.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to enable efficient construction, commissioning and start-up.
We are looking for someone with a strong engineering foundation who is motivated by complex industrial projects and interested in developing further within engineering management.
You may already have leadership or engineering management experience, or you may be an experienced engineer or project professional who is ready to take the next step.
We Believe You Have
- At least 5 years of relevant experience from engineering and/or large-scale industrial projects.
- Experience from demanding industrial environments such as steel, mining, oil & gas, pulp & paper, refinery, energy or other major brownfield/greenfield projects involving plant equipment and complex systems.
- A good understanding of engineering processes and the coordination of multidisciplinary engineering activities.
- The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- A structured and proactive approach, with the willingness to take responsibility and develop within the role.
- An interest in leadership and in coordinating people, technical disciplines and engineering partners.
- Fluency in English. Swedish is an advantage, and experience working in multicultural environments is a plus.
