Engineering Manager – Project Engineering Management (AUKUS Programme Interface) The Engineering Manager – SPIO is the Submarines Engineering Lead dedicated to providing industry support in the establishment and operation of the SSN AUKUS Programme Interface Office (SPIO), a collaborative Government and Industry programme interface function. The role will report to the Principal Engineering Manager – AUKUS Strategy & Integration (PEM S&I) and will support the Head of AUKUS Delivery - SDA. The core focus of the role will be supporting the coordination and integration of multi-national/multi-disciplined/multi-function teams encompassing Engineering, Build, Test & Commissioning, Supply Chain, Infrastructure, IM&T and supporting Core Functions. You will take on leadership of engineering functional management within the context. You will support the PEM S&I in the determination and delivery of the solutions and outputs to meet internal customer, external customer and contractual obligations; management of risks to quality, timeliness and specification of the engineering approach to support the Australian Shipbuilder including resolution of engineering related conflicts between functions, disciplines, systems and capabilities. What we’re looking for in you: The SPIO and the Engineering element to it are very much at the heart of the overall AUKUS Programme and the management of relationships between UK and Australia and the separate parties in Industry and Customer. The Engineering lead will need to exhibit the skills and behaviours to develop the right arrangements to arbitrate and coordinate demands between all parties on a best for programme basis. You will need to be able to operate at a Senior Level, typically liaising with and briefing the Programme Director and Technical Directors across Submarines and Partner Organisations. Your main responsibilities as Engineering Manager – SPIO will be to: · Collaborate with the UK MOD, BAE SYSTEMS Submarines, ASA and Australian Submarine Builders Leadership Teams to develop appropriate Operating Models and Solutions for the SPIO (in particular the Technical/Engineering aspects of that) to manage demands and dependencies between all 4 Parties. · Interface and influence internal and external (customer and other stakeholders) such that the evolving AUKUS programme interface supports the requirements and specifications for industry. · Working closely with the Engineering Manager – AUKUS Support Implementation of the required processes and tools needed for the successful operation of the SPIO and the successful interfacing of the two National Programmes. · Perform appropriate engineering planning, management and review activities. · Ensure all technical risks and opportunities are captured · Review the processes and procedures within the span of control to reduce waste, improve efficiency and establish a dynamic and flexible best in class capability. · Uphold the principles of the Common Design and support the resolution of conflicts and integration issues that occur through development and delivery phases. · Implement appropriately tailored application of Corporate and Business policies and standard processes embodying those in the Policies (to be established) for the SPIO itself. Your skills and qualifications: · Understanding of UK Submarines operations encompassing Engineering, Programme Management, Commercial, Supply Chain, Build, Support and/or other functions to enable advice to SPIO management on the correct course of action to take for any topic arising for SPIO attention. · Knowledge and expertise of the Engineering role within Nuclear Submarine Delivery · Knowledge and expertise of Engineering Governance and Stakeholder Management on International Programmes. · Knowledge and experience of the engineering lifecycle with strong experience of programme mobilisation. · Experience working across complex programme, engineering and stakeholder interfaces to coordinate delivery across multiple organisations. · An ability to communicate with Senior Stakeholders within Industry and Government. · Demonstrable experience in enterprise integration or multidisciplinary engineering environments. · An ability to develop and progress strong collaborative relationships across multiple stakeholder groups with potentially differing outlooks and aspirations · An ability to navigate and influence complex/conflicting requirements and solution to create a 'Best for Programme' outcome. · A Systems and Enterprise Mindset. Location: Barrow with fortnightly travel to the customer site in Abbeywood. (Filton could be considered as a contractual site for southern-based candidates however this is subject to HR approval and Filton as a contractual site cannot be guaranteed at this stage. Maritime – Submarines Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines.
