Salary Range: $37.56 To $46.95 Hourly Title: Engineering Supervisor – Electrical Systems Department/Location: Facilities, St. Louis campus Position Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Summary The Engineering Supervisor, Electrical Systems advances Principia by leading day-to-day maintenance operations, supervising maintenance employees across multiple skilled trades, and serving as the campus’s master-level electrical expert. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, this working supervisor plays a key role in maintaining safe, reliable, efficient, and code-compliant buildings, infrastructure, and building systems. This position provides leadership and technical oversight for HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance operations. The Engineering Supervisor coordinates contractor-performed work, oversees preventative maintenance activities, and supports the ongoing operation and care of campus facilities. Primary Responsibilities Supervises, schedules, assigns, prioritizes, and monitors the daily work of maintenance employees across electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance trades Provides leadership, coaching, technical guidance, training, and performance feedback to assigned staff Participates in hiring, onboarding, employee development, and performance management activities Plans and coordinates preventative maintenance activities, repairs, work orders, and emergency response efforts Serves as the department’s primary electrical resource and performs advanced electrical troubleshooting, repair, installation, and code-compliance work Maintains and repairs electrical systems, motors, controls, transformers, lighting systems, generators, switchgear, and related equipment Reads and interprets electrical schematics, blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications Ensures maintenance and installation work complies with applicable electrical, building, and safety codes Oversees employees, contractors, and vendor work related to HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems, and other specialized trades Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with approved specifications, applicable codes, safety standards, and Principia expectations Maintains records related to maintenance activities, projects, labor, materials, and contractor performance Assists with facilities planning, budgeting, energy management, asset preservation and infrastructure improvements Participates in on-call, evening, weekend, and emergency response activities as required Core Competencies Principia values the unique strengths each employee brings to their role. Minimum Qualifications Supportive of Principia’s guiding statements as articulated here https://www.principia.edu/about/guiding-statements High school diploma or equivalent required Completion of recognized electrical apprenticeship program, trade school program, or equivalent combination of technical education and training Current St. Louis County Electrical License required Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible commercial, institutional, industrial, or facilities electrical experience required. Experience in educational, higher education, healthcare, institutional, or campus facility environments preferred. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory, lead, project management, or contractor oversight experience Experience with HVAC systems, plumbing systems, building automation systems, or energy management systems preferred Thorough knowledge of commercial electrical systems, installation practices, maintenance procedures, and applicable electrical and safety codes Experience coordinating maintenance, renovation, repair, or contractor-performed projects Experience working with contractors, vendors, and outside service providers Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, construction documents, and technical specifications Strong leadership, communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices Valid driver’s license and ability to meet Principia requirements for operating institution-owned vehicles Environmental Demands Physical Requirements Electrician must be able to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs and be able to, with assistance, move and transport materials and equipment weighing in excess of 200 lbs Must be able to work in confined spaces requiring bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, or elevated equipment Work Environment Electrician’s work covers the full spectrum of buildings and activities, including educational facilities, labs, dormitories, and offices, as well as shop, power generation, and heating/cooling facilities Work can be outdoors in high heat and humidity or below freezing temperatures The statements above describe the general nature and level of work but are not a complete list of responsibilities and are subject to change at the discretion of Principia.
