About the Position
Family medicine physicians at Southcentral Foundation (SCF) care for a consistent panel of customer-owners over time, providing comprehensive outpatient primary care and building long-term relationships with individuals and families. SCF is an Alaska Native-owned, nonprofit healthcare organization, and its Nuka System of Care is designed around customer-ownership and shared responsibility. In practice, that means physicians bring their clinical expertise while customer-owners and families take an active role in decisions and treatment plans based on their needs, goals, and values.
Physicians practice within an integrated care team that includes a full-time RN case manager, certified medical assistant, and case management support. The team shares responsibility for care and has ready access to behavioral health consultants, pharmacists, dietitians, certified nurse midwives, pediatric support, psychiatry, pain consultation, and other integrated services. This structure supports continuity and coordinated, whole-person care without placing every aspect of the customer-owner’s care on a single clinician.
The practice model is designed to support the time and relationships this approach requires. Physicians are not compensated based on customer-owner visit volume and see an average of approximately 14 customer-owners per day. This creates space for thoughtful clinical decision-making, shared conversations about care, and attention to the broader factors affecting health.
As a Family Medicine Physician at SCF, you can expect:
- A consistent panel of customer-owners and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with individuals and families
- A dedicated integrated care team with RN case management, certified medical assistant, and case management support
- An average of approximately 14 customer-owner visits per day
- Compensation that is not based on customer-owner visit volume
- No on-call responsibilities
- A predictable outpatient schedule, primarily Monday-Friday, with one evening clinic per week and occasional Saturday coverage
- Ready access to integrated clinical services, specialty care, an on-site pharmacy, and a comprehensive formulary
For physicians seeking meaningful longitudinal primary care, SCF offers a practice model where relationship-based care is supported by the way teams, resources, and clinical work are designed.
