Position Summary

This newly created Manager of Field Services (Solar O&M) role is an on-site leadership position directing the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of Erthos’s 93 MW “Bravo” solar project in Matagorda County, Texas, approximately 13 miles south of Bay City. Reporting to the Director of Field Operations, this person will be the senior on-site technical resource and owner of day-to-day plant performance.

In this role, you will lead a full-time Field Service Technician, coordinate planned and corrective maintenance, oversee contractors, and drive disciplined safety and work-management practices. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting and managing all issues that arise to optimize the plant’s performance.

The successful candidate will combine hands-on utility-scale solar expertise with practical leadership, strong judgment, and a self-directed work style. During the transition from construction to operations, you will partner with construction and quality teams, learn the site, reinforce installation quality, and help ensure a smooth handoff to long-term O&M ownership.

Important Note: This position requires full-time, on-site presence five days per week. By the start date, candidates must live within a reasonable daily commuting distance of the solar site, either by holding current residence in the area OR via permanent relocation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operations and maintenance, keeping the plant safe, reliable, and at or above expected energy performance.
  • Work independently with limited daily oversight, identify and set priorities, own plant issues, and engage internal, vendor, or manufacturer resources when additional expertise is needed.
  • Lead, coach, and provide technical direction to the Field Service Technician and temporary or contracted on-site personnel.
  • Lead planning, prioritization, safety briefings, field execution, documentation, and work-order closeout for scheduled, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Monitor plant status and performance through ErthSCADA, remote operations center (ROC) alerts, monitoring systems, and performance management tools; investigate alarms, underperformance, data anomalies, and availability losses.
  • Participate in situational on-call coverage and lead responses to significant outages, severe weather, safety events, or other emergencies. Routine items may wait for normal hours based on urgency and impact.
  • Lead troubleshooting of PV strings, connectors, cable assemblies, combiner boxes, communications, controls, central inverters, medium-voltage equipment, switchgear, transformers, and related plant systems.
  • Analyze faults and performance issues, determine root cause, execute or coordinate repairs, and verify safe return to service.
  • Coordinate higher-voltage work with qualified personnel, utilities, vendors, and contractors. Ensure switching, lockout/tagout, grounding, energized work, and return to service follow approved procedures and authorization requirements.
  • Own the site’s ErthBot robotic cleaning program, including robot and charging-station maintenance, alarm response, recovery, escalation, and cleaning-performance tracking.
  • Coordinate vegetation management, grounds maintenance, drainage, and erosion-control activities, including inspection and acceptance of contractor work.
  • Administer the site work management process, including CMMS work orders, backlog, maintenance history, parts usage, photographs, technical documentation, and lessons learned.
  • Maintain site readiness, including tools, test equipment, vehicles, spare parts, consumables, PPE, emergency equipment, office, and work areas.
  • Oversee contractors and providers, including scope coordination, site orientation, job hazard analysis, schedule tracking, quality verification, and work acceptance.
  • Partner with construction and quality teams during completion and punch-list closeout; reinforce Erthos installation standards and identify conditions that could cause faults or premature equipment failure.
  • Lead site safety performance and compliance with company requirements, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E practices, environmental obligations, and applicable electrical and utility procedures.
  • Prepare and support owner reporting and operational metrics, including plant availability, production losses, work-order status, recurring faults, inventory, safety observations, and major risks; support NERC and ERCOT compliance activities.
  • Collaborate with remote operations, engineering, asset management, project teams, manufacturers, utilities, customers, and service providers to resolve issues and improve fleet-wide practices.
  • As needed, support other Erthos project sites through remote troubleshooting, temporary assignments, commissioning support, outage response, or technical training, with travel up to 25%.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of three years of extensive utility-scale solar operations and maintenance (O&M) experience, with hands-on responsibility for plant troubleshooting, maintenance, or performance recovery.
  • Ability to independently manage site priorities and lead technicians, contractors, or field work in a safety-critical environment.
  • Working knowledge of PV systems, DC and AC electrical systems, utility-scale inverters, medium-voltage equipment, transformers, switchgear, SCADA, communications, and plant monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, alarm logs, procedures, and performance data.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, including safe use of electrical test equipment and disciplined documentation of findings and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of arc-flash hazard controls and NFPA 70E electrical safe-work practices.
  • Ability to qualify under applicable Erthos and site electrical-safety, lockout/tagout, switching, and energized-work programs.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, strong organization, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently as the senior on-site representative.

  • Experience at a NERC-compliant power-generation facility or familiarity with NERC operating and compliance expectations.
  • Experience with ERCOT operations, utility coordination, weather-event response, warranty administration, and performance-guarantee environments.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical technology, engineering technology, renewable energy, or a related technical discipline.
  • NABCEP certification, Texas electrical license, recognized electrical apprenticeship, or equivalent military or industrial electrical training.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification and additional training in switching, rescue, confined space, fall protection, or emergency response.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to work full-time on site, primarily Monday through Friday during daylight operations, with the ability to respond outside normal hours when significant operational needs require.
  • Ability to work outdoors during prolonged periods of heat, humidity, wind, rain, insects, and other conditions typical of the Texas Gulf Coast.
  • Ability to walk extended distances over uneven terrain; drive on site; climb ladders; bend and kneel; handle solar modules, connectors, and PV cabling; and safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Team lifts will be used for heavier components as appropriate.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and work around energized equipment in accordance with applicable training, procedures, and site authorization.
  • Valid driver's license and ability and willingness to travel up to 25% to other project sites.
  • Ability and willingness to establish a daily on-site presence in Matagorda County; this is not a rotational, per-diem, or remote assignment.
