Forward Deployed Engineer, Series A AI Start-Up, Frontier AI Labs (Full-Stack)

I’m working with a well-funded AI start-up in New York that builds the data and simulated software environments frontier AI labs use to train their models. Several of the leading labs are already paying customers, and the company has raised a strong Series A.

The team is small and senior, with backgrounds at top tech companies and high-growth start-ups, and it’s growing quickly. They’re hiring Forward Deployed Engineers to work directly with their research lab customers and build what they need.

The Role

You’ll take what customers ask for, often on tight timelines, and turn it into working software fast. What you ship goes straight to researchers at frontier labs. Part of the job is spotting when a one-off build should become part of the core product.

Typical work includes:

• Preparing and shaping training data to fit each customer’s requirements
• Building quick features and improvements to the platform’s data tooling
• Designing custom training tasks with customers
• Building customer-facing dashboards and portals on short timelines
• Working directly with customers to understand what they need and turning it into product

Tech Stack

TypeScript, Python, Go, Vercel, Supabase, AWS.

What they’re looking for

• 5 years of full-stack engineering experience in fast-paced environments
• Forward deployed engineering experience, working directly with customers to build what they need
• Strong TypeScript and Python, comfortable across backend services, data pipelines and frontend
• Production software shipped at a high-growth, VC-backed start-up
• Ideally a mix of Big Tech followed by start-up experience, or time as a founder
• A track record of turning customer needs into fast technical solutions
• BS in Computer Science or a related STEM degree from a top CS programme
• Experience with evals, task design or LLM-judged scoring is a plus

• $200,000 to $280,000 base plus equity
