Forward Deployed Engineer – Healthcare AI Location: San Francisco, CA Work Arrangement: In-office 4 days per week Employment Type: Full-Time Compensation: $180,000–$285,000 base salary + competitive equity Relocation: Relocation assistance available About the Role We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer with 1–6 years of experience to scope, build, and deploy AI agents directly within major healthcare systems. This is a high-ownership opportunity with a rapidly growing Series B healthcare AI startup. You will serve as the critical link between clinicians and the engineering team, working directly with healthcare stakeholders to understand real-world problems and turn them into production-ready AI solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys working across the stack, interacting directly with customers, navigating ambiguous problems, and owning solutions from initial conversation through deployment and iteration. What You'll Be Doing Work directly with clinicians and healthcare stakeholders to understand workflows, identify problems, and scope technical solutions. Translate loosely defined clinical and operational needs into concrete AI-powered applications and agents. Build and deploy AI agents end-to-end, including evaluations to ensure they are performing as intended. Develop customer-specific features and integrations that may ultimately become part of the core platform. Work across backend, frontend, AI, integrations, and infrastructure to deliver complete solutions. Integrate solutions into complex healthcare and enterprise environments. Troubleshoot production issues and rapidly implement solutions based on customer feedback. Iterate on deployed solutions based on clinical guidelines, customer feedback, and operational requirements. Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and customer stakeholders throughout the implementation process. What We're Looking For Core Qualifications 1–6 years of experience in full-stack software engineering, forward deployed engineering, or a closely related hands-on engineering role. BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another STEM field. Strong Python proficiency for backend development. Frontend development experience with React and/or TypeScript . Experience with Rust . Experience with infrastructure and cloud tooling, including Kubernetes and AWS . Hands-on experience building production software involving LLMs, AI agents, or AI-powered workflows . Experience working directly with customers or end users to gather requirements and translate problems into working software solutions. Ability to scope, build, deploy, and iterate on technical solutions end-to-end. Willing and able to work in-office in San Francisco 4 days per week . Particularly Relevant Experience The following backgrounds are especially relevant to this role: Experience in an early-stage or high-growth technology company. Experience in a customer-facing or forward deployed engineering environment. Healthcare or health-tech experience. Experience working with clinicians, healthcare systems, or complex healthcare workflows. Experience with enterprise integrations. Experience building and evaluating production LLM or agentic AI applications. Familiarity with additional infrastructure tooling such as Helm . This Forward Deployed Engineer will have substantial end-to-end ownership, from customer conversations and project scoping through technical implementation and platform improvements.
