FPGA Engineer – P3

Legion Technical Solutions is seeking an experienced FPGA Engineer to support the development of advanced digital systems for a major aerospace and defense client. This is an opportunity to work on complex, mission-focused technology involving high-speed communications, signal processing, embedded systems, controls, and data interfaces.

The FPGA Engineer will contribute across the full engineering lifecycle—from requirements and architecture through VHDL development, verification, implementation, hardware integration, and production release.

What you’ll do

  • Design and deliver production-quality FPGA solutions from initial proof of concept through production
  • Develop reliable, maintainable FPGA logic in VHDL
  • Translate system-level requirements into detailed FPGA requirements
  • Contribute to FPGA architecture, device selection, interface definition, and system CONOPS
  • Perform simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, and implementation
  • Develop self-checking verification environments using directed and constrained-random testing
  • Track functional and code coverage throughout verification
  • Integrate and debug FPGA designs in circuit-card and system-level environments
  • Collaborate with systems, circuit-card, software, verification, and algorithm engineers
  • Support project schedules, technical milestones, and program commitments
  • Create requirements, design documentation, verification plans, reports, and user guides
  • Participate in internal and customer technical reviews
Required qualifications

  • At least five years of relevant FPGA, digital-design, or closely related engineering experience

  • Professional experience in at least one of the following:
    • Digital design and VHDL development
    • Xilinx or Microsemi FPGA devices and development tools
    • Delivery of FPGA solutions into system-level applications
    • Hands-on FPGA integration and debugging
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment

  • Strong technical documentation and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to satisfy applicable program security and access requirements

  • Ability to work on-site at the designated client facility

Preferred experience

Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
  • Radar-processing techniques
  • RF or electro-optical digital signal processing
  • Image processing for visual or infrared sensors
  • Embedded systems using ARM, MicroBlaze, or Nios processors
  • Gigabit serial interfaces and multi-gigabit transceivers
  • Constrained-random verification using SystemVerilog and UVM
  • Functional and code coverage
  • Veloce or similar hardware-emulation platforms
  • Aerospace, defense, avionics, or other high-reliability systems
