🚀 Senior/Staff Full-Stack Engineer (AI Legal/Immigration Tech)

Location: Hybrid (3–4 days/week in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY)

Compensation: $200,000 – $300,000 Base Salary + 0.25% – 1% Equity

Visa Status: Open to Visa Transfers (OPT, H-1B)

💡 The Role

As a Senior/Staff Full-Stack Engineer, you will have full ownership of product/feature development. You will interface directly with users and internal legal operations teams to shape exactly what gets built.

You will own the hardest technical challenges: redesigning workflow orchestration systems, shaping complex API and data architectures, and building agentic LLM systems that automate legal processes end-to-end.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

• Redesign Workflow Orchestration: Architect and build robust, scalable task and workflow orchestration systems for complex, multi-step legal processes.

• Build Agentic AI Systems: Develop and deploy LLM-powered agents that automate end-to-end legal operations and document processing.

• Own Core Architecture: Drive data modeling, schema design, database migrations, and complex API access controls across the backend.

• Ship Full-Stack Features: Build polished, fast, and reliable user-facing customer portals and internal legal-ops tooling.

• Operate Without a PM: Talk directly to end-users and operational teams, translate business pain points into technical specs, and ship multiple times a day.

• Frontend: React, TypeScript

• Backend: Python or Node, FastAPI, GraphQL

• Database & Data: PostgreSQL (Relational schema design)

• AI & Automation: LLMs, Agentic Workflows

• 2+ Years Experience: Proven track record shipping complex products across the full stack (frontend and backend), with a strong lean toward backend/systems architecture.

• Early-Stage Builder DNA: You have been a founding engineer, early employee, or technical leader at a VC-backed early-stage startup (Seed/Series A).

• Product-Minded Execution: You thrive in environments without PMs, taking end-to-end ownership of the product from user discovery to production deployment.

• Technical Depth: Deep expertise in TypeScript/React on the frontend and Python or Node on the backend, with strong SQL data modeling skills.

• Exceptional Communication: Ability to independently triage issues and confidently explain technical decisions and business impact to non-technical stakeholders.

🧩 Interview Process

1. Intro Call (30 mins): High-level conversation covering your background, your motivation for joining a small, PM-less team, and general technical orientation.

2. Technical Screen (1 hour): A practical coding and architecture session grounded in real engineering challenges (e.g., data structuring, API redesign, security constraints). No LeetCode or algorithmic puzzles.

3. System Design (1 hour): Deep dive into scaling backend systems, workflow orchestration, and data models.

4. Virtual Onsite (3 - 4 hours): Comprehensive technical and cultural rounds with the founding team, focusing on how you tackle complex business processes and communicate technical trade-offs.
