Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training. In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions.  HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees. Location : Northam, Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre Employment Type: Full-time, onsite role with potential for a hybrid work model Salary: $200 - $250 per hour plus superannuation Relocation Assistance : Relocation support is available for interstate or relocating candidates with Australia Job Description The General Practitioner is responsible for leading and managing the delivery of high-quality primary healthcare services to immigration detainees within the detention centre. This position requires a strong foundation in general practice and primary healthcare, supported by specialised knowledge of the unique health needs that arise within the detention environment. The GP must be equipped to manage a wide range of complex presentations, including mental health conditions, substance use issues, and trauma-related health concerns whilst maintaining high quality and comprehensive medical records. A key responsibility of the role is to provide clinical oversight and to act as the primary medical escalation point for health staff working within the immigration detention centre. No billing or Medicare administration required - so you can focus on what you do best: caring for patients. Join us in bringing a new approach to medical and wellbeing care for detainees by: Providing preventative health checks, immunisations, and health promotion Managing acute medical presentations and complex comorbidities Managing chronic diseases and attending to day-to-day medical concerns Supporting patients with acute and chronic mental health issues alongside our multidisciplinary mental health team Adapting to the evolving operational requirements and changing health needs of the immigration detention cohort, ensuring a flexible, responsive, and person-centred approach to care Let’s talk about you: To be considered for this role, you must hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and have full registration with the Medical Board of Australia, without restrictions. Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), or equivalent substantial clinical practice experience is essential. Demonstrated experience in managing mental health and alcohol and other drug presentations, with a strong understanding of acute, chronic, and complex trauma and the ability to deliver safe, trauma-informed care in high-risk environments. Authorisation as an opioid substitution treatment prescriber, or willingness to obtain it, is essential. Experience managing public health issues, including communicable diseases, and working with vulnerable populations is highly regarded. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. A commitment to continuous improvement, reflective practice, and high clinical standards is essential, along with a strong understanding of ethical practice, confidentiality, and the ability to adapt within a complex healthcare setting.
