An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced General Practitioner to join a community-controlled Aboriginal health service delivering comprehensive primary health care to Aboriginal communities and the wider community.
Working within a multidisciplinary team of GPs, nurses, Aboriginal health practitioners and workers, visiting specialists and allied health professionals, you will provide culturally safe, high-quality care while contributing to improved Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.
This role offers an attractive remuneration package, relocation support and the opportunity to combine meaningful clinical work with a relaxed coastal lifestyle.
Enjoy a unique opportunity to combine a rewarding medical career with an exceptional coastal lifestyle.
Coastal living: Enjoy beautiful beaches, spectacular sunsets, fishing, surfing and boating.
Outdoor adventure: Explore the Great Australian Bight, experience whale watching and discover the remarkable Nullarbor Plain.
Affordable lifestyle: Benefit from a more relaxed pace of life and lower living costs than many major cities.
Welcoming community: Build lasting connections in a friendly regional community.
As a key member of the Primary Health Care team, you will provide comprehensive general practice services while working collaboratively with Aboriginal health practitioners, nurses and other health professionals to support patients and their families.
The initial clinical model involves approximately 16-18 planned appointments per day, with a mix of standard and longer consultations. Time is allocated for results, recalls, referrals, care coordination, clinical governance, outreach and other essential non-consulting duties to support sustainable, high-quality patient care.
There may also be an opportunity to participate in a shared hospital and emergency services on-call roster under a separately agreed arrangement.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing comprehensive general practice services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral and preventative health care.
Managing chronic and complex health conditions and supporting long-term patient wellbeing.
Delivering culturally safe care to patients across all age groups, including residential aged care patients.
Collaborating with Aboriginal health practitioners and workers, nurses, visiting specialists, allied health professionals and community services.
Maintaining accurate clinical records using Communicare and ensuring compliant Medicare billing.
Participating in community outreach and care coordination activities.
Potentially contributing to hospital on-call services, including emergency assessment and stabilisation within your qualifications, experience and credentialing.
You will be part of a team that values collaboration, cultural respect and a shared commitment to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.
To succeed in this role, you will ideally have:
A recognised medical degree and demonstrated experience in general practice.
Current unrestricted registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA.
Fellowship of the RACGP, ACRRM or a recognised equivalent.
Vocational registration and a current Medicare provider number, or eligibility to obtain one.
Current medical indemnity insurance.
Contemporary knowledge of general practice, chronic disease management and relevant clinical pathways.
A strong understanding of the health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The ability to communicate respectfully and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families and communities.
A genuine commitment to culturally safe, comprehensive and community-controlled primary health care.
The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
A current Class C driver's licence or equivalent.
Permanent Australian working rights without the need for employer sponsorship.
Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO), Aboriginal health service, or rural or remote community will be highly regarded.
This package combines an attractive financial reward with practical relocation support, lifestyle benefits and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to community health.
$350,000 base salary per annum, plus 12% superannuation on the full base salary.
Uncapped Medicare revenue incentive: Receive 60% of eligible Medicare revenue above the approved threshold.
Additional hospital and on-call earnings under a separately agreed arrangement.
Five weeks of paid annual leave.
Up to five additional paid working days during the Christmas and New Year closure, excluding public holidays.
Suitable employer-provided housing, including electricity, water and reasonable relocation assistance.
Fully maintained vehicle with full private use within South Australia and reasonable private fuel.
Mobile phone and service plan, with home internet support considered.
Reasonable costs covered for one return trip to your home location each year.
Potential for negotiated professional development leave, allowances and professional cost support.
Potential eligibility for external rural workforce incentive payments, subject to program requirements.
Free 24/7 access to the community gym.
Salary packaging options to help maximise take-home pay.
Potential tax concessions associated with remote-area living and eligible expenses.
Employee Assistance Program providing 24/7 counselling support for employees and their immediate family members.
